Lately in my internet meanderings there seems to be a lot of people calling the Marlin 336 'light and handy'. Handy I get. But light?

The things are seven pounds. That's about 2-4 ounces shy of a 24" sporter with a standard weight barrel. If a 7 pound Marlin is 'light', then a 6 3/4 pound Featherweight is 'lighter'.

What gives? Is it that bolt guns are typically scoped and levers aren't?

Probably due to the nice balance in the hand.
Even lightweight guns get heavy after a while...... seven pounds is not exactly a heavy gun is it.....How much does a Garand weigh?

About nine pounds.

I guess if you've been lugging a Garand around then a 336 is light. A Winchester Supergrade + a Leupold 4x33 would be around the same weight as a Garand.

Similar concept is the Ithaca 37, all steel parts, but it feels like a 'Featherweight' due to JMB's genius design and balance.
