Geez, any suggestions on how to break in a new 10 round magazine so that it actually will take 10 rounds? I can get 8 in but it's a real struggle.

Beretta factory mags but google tells me this is a common problem with many new magazines.

Suggestions? How do I loosen up that spring? Or should I just give up and buy some sort of mag charger, if so--suggestions?

It's called a Maglula. Best thing since sliced bread for loading magazines. I nominate the inventor for sainthood.

I've had to lop off a few coils on new 8 rd single stack .45 ACP mags in order to seat the 8th round. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do ....

Leaving a mag loaded will not weaken the spring unless it is improperly tempered. A good spring will ONLY loosen up by working (compression/decompression.) Otherwise, you couldn't leave a mag loaded in your safe, or LEO would burn through mags like mad because they're always sitting at full capacity. It would stop functioning due to a weak spring

The solution is to load as many rounds as you comfortably can, and shoot. USING the mag will break it in. You'll soon be able to fit the final round or two in.

Just leave them loaded at 10 rounds sitting when your not shooting. Browning HP mags are a royal B@#$ when new, but leaving them sit loaded smooths them right out. This works well for any of the short tube 10 round mags. most of the mags with the full length tube, and a notch or rivet in them are easy

+1 - upLula loaders are worth 5x what they cost. I got mine from Canada Ammo.

This is also VERY true. Think about the springs in your car, if leaving a spring loaded made it 'break-in' you would have to replace the springs in your car every few months. The only thing that effects a spring is cycling it.

Can you take the mag apart? Shave a tenth inch off the bottom of the follower?

This is also great advice. This is what I did with my M&P mags, now the 10th round goes in easily but there is still no way to fit an 11th round in so there are no legal issues.

Thanks all, I ordered a maglula, and if the mag doesn't loosen after a few uses I will take it apart and see what can be done.

Meanwhile after an epic battle I got the 10th round in, and achieved my daily workout at the same time.

Press the previous round down with your thumb before inserting the next.
Good to learn basic skills, before relying on things like the Uplula.

With Glock mags even when well used they are still a PITT to load the last two. I think it's more a case of the user just figures out the best way to load the last round with technique rather than the spring breaking in.

I've even seen folks with the Maglula that were sure the mag was full until they saw the last little hole was still dark. This is not to dis the Maglula at all. I've got one and would not be without it. But even the best "mousetrap" has its limits.

While waiting for your order to arrive, find a wood stir stick for paint cans, can usually get them free from the paint counter at can tire or walmart. It fits on the follower just fine and cycle that follower up and down 200-500 times, it will break the spring in and make loading your mag a pleasure, works every time. and its cheap

I will try the paint stick.

The mag has already loosened a bit sitting overnight with ten. I read these springs naturally loosen up after the first few uses and are designed to have the correct tension after that.

You would think they could do the paint sick thing in the factory.

Noob question I guess, first handgun. Now I know!
