Pmag's don't fit in rifle properly...help please

I checked my mags (not from IRUNGUNS) and they all hold 7. Good thing the RCMP haven't checked them, fixing it today. Is it better to rivet the front or back? Mine are currently on the back.

Dremel the dome down, then paint it black. Easy fix.

Forget filing them down. Canadian Tire sells 100 packs of 1/8" flat top steel rivets for about $6. Lock your doors, ;) drill out the old rivet, slightly countersink the drilled hole and install the new rivet. To make sure it is flush stick it in the hole before actually installing it to make sure it isn't sticking up above flush, then pop the rivet. Problem solved.

So after you buy the pmags you're supposed to spend more money on rivets a hand riveter and then make them useable yourself? maybe if I were given these mags for free I'd do that but I actually paid for them so therefore I believe they should already work without me having to spend more money and time on them.

Agreed that you shouldn't have to spend more money and time on them but even sending them back is going to cost you time and money. I had a similar issue with Pmags (from another supplier) and I decided instead of spending money for postage and time packaging and shipping, I'd spend that money and time on rivets and have functional mags in minutes instead of 2 weeks. Just a thought.

No, after you get into AR's in General you have to spend money on a rivet kit cause you can't trust the rivet job on any mag ever. Not to say that most of them aren't fine, but every now and then you get one with a hokey rivet job that needs to be fixed. Even some rivet jobs that are fine might not be to your standard of fit and finish. It's part of the game of playing with AR's.

So yeah, you're going to have to remove the rivet, find out what size the hole, then get some replacement rivets to match. Rivet guns can be had for the price of a Pmag.

You'll need a drill bit that is the same size as the outside of the rivet head to make the counter sink. But be very very careful when doing the counter sinking. You want to set the drill into REVERSE, spinning the drill bit BACKWARDS so that it slowly wears down the countersink area. If you have the drill set forwards, the drill bit will bite a gaping hole into your brand new mag faster then your reflexes can react. I learned that the hard way.

Once you have a decent countersink cut, you should have no problem flushing the rivet.

The quality control on pin jobs is going to take a dive right now with demand being what it is, so if you're in the AR game for the long haul, you better get used to doing pin jobs, and get good at them.

I just bought one of those brand new C-Products SS USGI mags that are going around and it too had a poor pin job.

Hey, if you want to pay to ship 'em back and wait for them again knock yourself out. I gave you a cheap, neat way to solve your problem. Surely you have or know someone with a pop rivet gun so your total outlay would be $6 for more countersunk rivets than you would ever need. Sounds like a no brainier to me.

I have never had to use the reverse drill technique. I have a low speed (500 rpm) variable speed drill and just go slow without putting too much pressure on the drill and it works fine. Some high speed drills are pretty powerful and I could see them running away on you if you're not careful, however.

Yeah, not sure what RPM my drill is that I used, but I made the mistake. Figured I could just give it a little nip but no. Chewed right thru' the mag before I even realized what happened. Had to compensate by using a much larger rivet and it turned out in the end, however, this mistake cost me that ability to use the cover with a full mag.

Riveting mags is pretty much a required skill for Canadian gun owners, and you can get a rivet gun from CT for 11 bucks.

Just get a rivet gun from CT or Princess Auto. If you ever need to clean your mags you will have to take the rivet out and redo them plus they are often in the wrong place.

Just solve this issue by getting Beowolf mags ;)

A guy at work had an identical mag rivet issue (also from irunguns) when he bought his Colt AR. Sucked because his first range trip was all single shots. Easy to fix once realized though. Quick re-rivet and no issues since. These things happen...
