Hi --

I have a CZ 455 Lux and I have two ammo related questions:

1) What have folks found is the best ammo for accuracy and target shooting for this rifle, or similar bolt action .22?

2) I want to buy a big chunk of ammo for my stash -- say 5000 rounds. Who has the best deal right now on .22 ammo in this quantity?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

+1 SK Standard+, also Wolf MT and CCI SV... I'm not sure who has cases in stock, try Prophet River and if not shop around at local gunshops...

I tested Lapua Center X, CCI Std, SK Std + and SK Rifle Match in my 452 Varmint. SK Rifle Match shot the best. You can get it from Clay at Prophet River. Out of cheap bulk stuff Win 555 shoots well.

I'll add some fuel to the fire. Rimfires tend to be ammo fussy by nature, what groups well in one, may not group worth a darn in the next gun off the assembly line. Best to try a couple of different types through your gun to see what it likes. I was lucky enough that both of my rimfires seem to group best with the same Federal 36gr HP load, that having been said, your gun may not like them.

I find american eagle has the best accuracy

I haven't found that to be the case in any of my rifles. They are one of the better cheap rounds, but if you have only tried the cheap rounds, you really have no idea of the accuracy potential of your rifle.

I found blaser to be one of the most consistent of the cheap stuff, winchester target is good too.I shoot out at 200 yrds with my 10/22 and bvss bolt gun. Check out the cheap stuff, alongside of the expensive to see what groups better @ 100.When you get your best groups, try the 200 YRD CHALLENGE ! I would be interested to find out what kind of groups you get

My CZ 452 American and Lux prefer RWS low velocity match ammo.

I really like RWS Championship ... nice compromize between accuracy and affordability.w

I typically get 1/2 in. groups at 50 yards and 3/4 - 1.0 inch groups at a 100 yds off the bench.

RWS 'Championship' costs $565. for a case of 5,000 roundsvfrom International Imports in Toronto.

Lapua and Eley ammo is also excellent. unfortunately, I cant find Wolf MT in Canada.

Enjoy the new toy!

Isn't Wolf MT and SK Standard the same ammo, just different branding?

These days, often the question isn't who has the best price, the question is who has that much in stock.

The expensive ammo isn't a problem, it's the "cheap", US made ammo. A few months ago I could find cases of Blazer (5250 rds) for a bit over $200. Now, stock of the 525 packs is hit/miss.

Over the last year or two I have done a fair bit of testing lower priced 22 ammo in several top of the line sportering rifles, a Brno #1, Brno #6, a CZ, a Weatherby and two old, but first class sporters, the Winchester Model 69.
We had fair quality scopes with the best rests we could.
Win 555, American Eagle and Federal Lightning were all good, but the best on average was CCI, both standard velocity and Blazer. Quite a few five shot, half inch groups were made at fifty yards.
One result which I expected, but is contrary to what a lot of people believe, was that every rifle came up with virtually the same conclusion. That is, if the ammo shot good in one rifle, it shot good in them all. Also, as many as four shooters participated in the test and every shooter had virtually the same results. Since there was very little difference in several brands of ammunition, there was some overlapping and the result not always exactly the same. But on average, it is like I stated.
