Optics recommendations for Browning BAR Safari .270 Win?

I recently got a Safari BAR in .270 Win caliber (no BOSS, has iron-sights). The primary goal is big game hunting, mainly in Southern Ontario (I live in GTA).

What optics would you recommend for this gun?

I guess max shooting distance in hunting situations will be 200-300 meters at most, more likely 100 meters or less. Therefore I was mostly looking at scopes with magnification 1X-4X and 2X-7X. 3X-9X and more seems like an overkill for this type of distance in hunting conditions.

The few options that I'm considering so far are:

I do like the illuminated reticle and BDC option as well. What's your opinion on these options?

A couple more questions:
1. Capped vs uncapped - what are the pros and cons here? Not sure what's better.
2. Who sells Vortex scopes around the GTA (Toronto) area? I saw a couple of shops carrying Vortex at the outdoors show back in February, but they were all from the Kitchener area if I remember correctly.

No opinions on what a good scope for .270 BAR would be? ;)

C'mon guys, I'm sure I'm not the only one with this type of gun here. :) Please voice your opinions and help me to make the right choice here.
 
VX2 2-7, or an FX II 4x, or if you want to spend a bit more the 2.5-8 VX3. Those are my personal preferences. For all my big game hunting. Yes the Zeiss conquests have constant eye relief, but I find them to have much less latitude in head placement.

I can't comment on the vortex, never owned one. As to the bdc, I see no point at the ranges you speak of.
 
Found that the Leupold 3-9X40 VXll worked quit well on my Bar in 270.(out to 500yds) So well in fact I put the same scope on the betterhalfs Bar Safari in 243.

Would anything over 4X be useful for Southern Ontario, where you normally don't get to shoot to over 300'yards range?

I'm torn between 2-7X and 1-4X. The 1-4X is good especially when shooting close, 1X is basically almost like a red dot, especially if the reticle is illuminated.
 
2-7 will let in more light at dusk and dawn than a 1-4...bdc is irrelevant on a 270 under 300 yds as it will shoot flat out to that distance. If you want more suitable advice you should include a budget. 3-9 would be useful if you want the rifle to double as a part time varminter and in lower light...but will be a SLIGHT hinderance in thick cover.

The budget is $400-600. The lower - the better of course. :) Any preferences in this range? I don't think I'd need 3-9X, as I want to keep it relatively versatile.
