Thoughts on the GSG 1911/.22 Cal

Just got mine today from Blueline - no waiting at all!

It's the conversion kit on my Remington R1E

You won't regret it :) Now the wait begins for the transfer

Regarding transfer time in Ontario, I just bought a restricted from Rammako's in Sudbury and it was 48 hrs from purchase till the gun was on my bench at home!! I bought another .45 from a member and it took 20 days from application for transfer and ATT till I got it home. Rammako's are getting a shipment of GSG's in 1-2 weeks. I'm thinking of waiting on them as their price on my Norinco was the lowest I could find anywhere, $329.00+ GST

My first handgun and I couldn't be happier. After reading reviews, range reports, I got a new guide rod and spring from gsgpro.com and a Fibre optic sight and red buffers from dlask. Oh and a spare parts kit from blueline (be prepared). I've put about 1200 rounds through it with only occasional fte or ftf. Mine likes rem golden bullets or cci blazers best.

Thanks for the heads up !
I'll definitely be checking Rammakos in the coming weeks. Also I'm sure Jacks will also be having some new stuff/sales with the opening of the new store.

I bought mine from Al Simmons in Hamilton and it only took a few days from purchase to getting her home. It's a really nice pistol and l'm glad l bought it. I love it.
I also have a Ruger sr1911, but shooting .45 all the time would break the bank. Besides it gave me an excuse to buy another gun.
I've also noticed that it can be finicky with the ammo that you use. I know every gun is differnet, but CCI mini mag works very well in mine.

Enjoy.

I've got one. Constantly having to recock and fire to get a round to go off no matter what ammo is used. Fails to feed often also. These isssues are every magazine load. Has about 600 rounds through it and steadily getting worse. Yes I do strip it and clean it. Great gun to learn stopage drills with.

Two suggestions
Make sure the guide rod spring is installed the correct way round...wider end towards the muzzle
Keep the slide rails wet till it is broken in (G96 works great for this)

My feed problems were due to me assembling the spring wrong way round. If the small end is towards the muzzle it can slip further forward into the collar losing some of the recoil force of the spring. In fact the spring wound into the collar so far that my slide jammed up and would not cycle at all.

The op rod spring has no taper to it like the manual shows and you mention. It is straight. I have it wet with CLP which is what I use on my real 1911, a Colt 70 series. Thanks though for the suggestions.

Interesting...I didn't realize there was a taper until my local gunsmith pointed out the difference in the two ends of the spring when I mentioned the issue...subtle difference but enough to not fit in the recess of the collar properly.
But there have been several iterations of guide rod and spring from what I have read so yours could be different from mine. I would like to know what the latest issue come with. I just bought mine a month ago.

How did you get the guide rod from gsgpro? I wanted a new guide rod but their site says they don't ship outside the USA. Has that policy changed or do they have a Canadian distributor?

I bought my 1911 tactical in January. The spring has no taper in it.

If Jack wants to compete with Rammako's, He'll have to sharpen his pencil!! Prices are consistantly higher at Jack's. I checked his (Jack) price for a Norinco Sport @ $399
I bought mine at Rammako's for the sticker price: $329 A buddy bought a Mare's Leg at Jack's and paid $60 more that Rammako's. His bad for not shopping prices.
Competition is a good thing!!

Hi "theDuck",
Please contact me with your contact information. It sounds like you may have a faulty firing pin spring if you are constantly having light strikes. We will troubleshoot your problems and get you back up and running.
