Last weekend while at a gun show I found this beauty for sale. I really wanted to buy it but my brother was very interested in it. I told him if he wanted it that I'd pass so my brother could buy his first bolt action rifle.

It's a model 89 schmit Ruben that bubba got a hold of. The barrel has been cut back about 3" and of course the forewood has been chopped. It's numbers matching but it's really too bad that bubba got a hold of it, why you ask? Cause the serial number reads 13XX meaning it's a first year production with a low serial number. My research has revealed that the serial numbers started at 1 and went to 24,000 the first year. Here's a pic of it, my brother has been giving it love and cleaning it up, hope we can shoot it soon!

Looks like all of you did quite well at the Winnipeg Show. I am just glad that I got to that Swedish m/96 before one of your crowd spotted it.

Trade-Ex has brass in stock, and a while ago I picked up a set of Lee Dies at WS Sports in the city. Do NOT use later day Swiss GP-11 ammunition in it as the action is regarded as too weak for the later high powered loads. The original load was a paper jacketed bullet, but since you are using cast bullets in your other rifles, you will find that they should work quite well in that Swiss. Lighter loaded .308 jacketed bullets will also work.

Keep in mind that alot of those sportered 1889s wre converted to 30-30, so make sure you determine the chambering before trying to load and fire 7.5 swiss.
 
If it is still in 7.5x53.5, try 35gr H4895 with 150-168gr flat base bullets. I'm using that with 200gr bullets

Yep we all did well for sure. My research an of course the tips and info some of you gun nutz have given me are leading down many paths but I'm finding good stuff along the way so life is good. As for that Mauser, I had it in my hands and almost pulled the trigger on the deal but something told me to put it back down! I REALLY want a Swed m96 and luck would have it that I may have found several in a private collection that the owner is more then willing to sell.

I'll have to do some more reading on 7.5x53.5 Swiss ammo so when the time comes I can work on some loads for my brother. We already shot that P14 that my brother grabbed at the show and early accuracy results show promise.

That carcano I got looks real nice now. I'd say it's in good to VG shape now with the bluing being 99% perfect.

It's amazing the goodies that I've found at local gunshows, I think we're going to go to the rivals show in a few weeks!
 
Got one similar and I'd kill for a decently priced replacement stock.:) Over a hundred years old and no trace of rust.
