This is the rifle that 25+years of hunting and shooting has brought me to.

Yes!!!!! I am on board with that statement. Some of the shiny "pretty" rifles is like a status symbol more than a tool.
I disagree to a certain extent. High end firearms have better quaility materials, craftmenship, fit, finish and balance. The only thing that it dosen't have is a low price.

I have my share of rifles and some that others would consider "expensive" or of "high quality" and I love them all. Unfortunately not a single one of them shoot as well as my Savage. It shoots several different loads into the same ragged hole and does it consistently. It's the rifle I have gravitated to the most the last few years and the one I trust in the hands of my daughter. Yes the stocks not purdy and yes some of the edges are a bit rough but it's a tool and a dependable one to boot.

Some people admire quality and workmanship over accuracy but for me it's more about the accuracy. My Savage is the most accurate rifle I own it's just not the prettiest and I'm ok with that, tools don't always have to look good to do a good job.

I love pretty guns, don't get me wrong, but when I go to the range and my pretty gun doesn't allow me to show off my targets, that's when I take my savage.

I find it interesting how many are concerned about rust on blued barrels and water soaked stocks. Living on the west coast, I've never had a wood stock warp and affect my shots. Surface rust can develop, but cleans off easily back at camp or home. I can understand others desire for composite stocks and stainless barrels, but don't see the great need for them - even out here on the 'wet coast' where one is usually in the rain when hunting...

Rust means damage... It's a constant fight, constant worry, constant work. Methinks stainless rifles are a very good choice for our wet westcoast climate.

I'm sure Ontario gets a good soaking from time to time as well.

High end and shiny"pretty" rifles aren't necessarily the same. You can have a high quality rifle, using a synthetic stock, no engraving or inlaying, with dull finishes, and it won't be shiny or pretty. On the other hand, you can have a rifle with nice looking wood, engraving and even inlays, that is not made to the same standards that the plain looking rifle is. I don't own a single rifle that is engraved, or has nice wood, but I do own some high quality rifles.

As for the OP's rifle, I would not own a Savage, or any 270, and the bolt is on the wrong side, but if the OP is happy with his choice, that is all that matters.
