What is your experience with lead bullets in the SIG P220? ie accuracy or change in point of impact when compared to jacketed rounds.

I am shooting hard cast bullets for .45ACP and .45Colt and find they are as accurate as factory ammo, just worked my way up to factory velocity and no problems with lead in the barrel.

very accurate unless you end up leading the barrel, just like anything else, they go haywire, great pistol no reason not to buy one.

I get the same accuracy and POI with both jacketed or lead bullets. My German P220 is awsome. In fact, it is so awsome that I woud'nt take a Mk23 on trade for it...

I shoot just as lousy with lead as with jacketed. Can't seem to get used to the P220 compared to my 1911. More practice :)

Wait till you get more practice with it, you'll be amazed on how it performs. The P220 is a hard to beat platform. It requires a bit more practice than a 1911 to master but when you get it right, you'll be hard press to find another combat .45 that gives so much for so little$$$... Of course it's JMHO...

Practice is the problem as I stretch myself too thin with too many calibers. The 686/629/500 revolvers are so fun.

No kidding on the great price on those German P220, mine was $800 from Murdoc. A lot cheaper than the Sig and S&W 1911. Anyone shoot the G21 Gen 4, worst of my 45ACP.

That German HK45 is tempting :)

Yes it is... love my German Sig 220 from Murdoc, seriously thinking about the HK45, but I have (2) 45's already. Do I really need another? I have these 45's already:

Personally, I don't shoot bare lead anymore as they're just too damned dirty. Too much smoke in an indoor range and your guns get filthy dirty. Will it hurt anything, probably not.

When you consider that the P-220 was they gun that replaced the P-210 in service applications, it must have been doing something right in the trials huh?

If you are going to stray into the world of fantastic plastic, give the FN FNP 45 a look. I had one for a while and am sorry I sold it. Mine had a co witnessed Trijicon RMR set with suppressor sights. Lot's of .45 ACP goodness too at a very reasonable price!

Hey Callahan..

indeed,

the German p220 is awsome !

In fact, I must say that it is the most accurate service pistol I have ever fired. A testament to the German craftmanship that thank goodness, is still alive today. It seems to be dieing in American manufacturing lately and that is why I focus my attention to European made guns these days.

With all that said though, my Mark 23 is an excellent shooter and I think with a bit of trigger time [new to me] it will rival the german sig.

cheers...

Thanks for the words 4tkal. Glad to hear you enjoy your P220 as much as I enjoy mine. For the purpose it was intended, it is a very accurate tool indeed.

I wont argue that the Mk23 is not a great shooter, I've owned one for about three years. It's an accurate piece but the ergos are like holding a 2x4, (I'm not even talking about using the safety and decoker levers... and no, I wont shoot it with gloves on...). I personally didnt like the "boat anchor" size of it. Plus the trigger on the Mk23 is nothing to brag about, the trigger and sights on my P220 are a lot better.

Beside being an attraction at the range and a "used to be" Navy Seal/SOCOM tool (possible collector piece down the road if you keep it NIB and history surrounding it), they are other .45's that fits me way better and are equally (or even more) accurate for less than half price. JMHO
