Remington SENDERO

The argument about the .300 Win having an advantage over the RUM, is the same argument people make between the .300 Win and the .30-06, and between the .30-06 and the .308. There are advantages and disadvantages to every cartridge, (except the 6.5x55 which is perfect in every way). Just get what you want and be happy.

I look at the Sendero once in a while, in both 300 win and 300 RUM, when I get a hankering for a long range big game thumper. I've heard nothing bad about these rifles, period, and Remington touts them as their most accurate "out of the box" rifle. Whether a person wants to get the win mag or the RUM is really a personal choice, and I think it's really a more minor decision than in which model of rifle to buy.

The 300WM is capable of shooting allot further than 600 yards with authority!

For target, it will reach the mile marker.

Its a very compitant caliber/cartridge in the right hands.

Recoil from a 300 RUM isn't that bad. I'm not sure where this myth got started...probably the 30-06 crowd. BTW, I've put 1500 full power rounds through my Savage and still have no loss of accuracy issues yet, but I rarely ever let the barrel heat up.

I have a BDL LH in a 7mm ultramag and what i have found from stepping up from a 7mm mag is a touch more recoil and a bit more range but at a bigger cost. $63 abox(used to be $56). I do find it louder and my friends hate standing near me when i touch it off. 2 trade offs, but oh well!!! i have about 150 rounds through it and still 3/8" groups.

i have , the 300 RUM and the 300 win mag, also have a 300 wby and 308 Norma mag, 300saum
my 300 rum and 300 win are in the sendaro sfII if i know i,m going to doing a long range shot on an animal i always reach for the RUM , i once shot a 6x6 bull elk at 750 yards using a190 grn bullet , when that bullet connected with that elk it was just like he had been picked up and body slammed to the ground, i have shot deer and elk at long ranges with my 300 win mag and never got that kind of reaction form the 300 win mag that i have with the 300 wby and 300rum.
i say buy what yer heart is telling you to buy and go out and enjoy yer rifle

A hunting buddy in southern ab has an original version sendero in 300 rum and I tell ya he has made some magnificent field shots with that rifle its like packing around a crow bar but ya know its gonna get the job done

I bought your mentioned rifle in 2007. Shot it to 1000 yds. quite quickly with Mark 4 scope, and Shilen trigger. I could get 1 MOA best at 1000. I hand loaded 208 AMax, then 220 SMKs. I shot 2 elk at just over 500 yds with it (as factory) with handloaded 220 SMKs. The stock and receiver now fire 338 bullets down a Gaillard Tube. The gun worked and shot great, as factory.. but distance shooting the biggest problem was Rem Brass - you have to really spend time sorting it out. Or shoot Nolser brass, better quality but only expect 5-6 handloads at best out of em.

At the end of the day a good solid rifle, that can knock anything down and reach out too, but I would consider 300 win mag seriously.

The 300 RUM is without peers, it is not an easy cartridge to shoot but it does have very good accuracy potential. Both my son's and mine shoot less than MOA and don't be fooled it has a significant margin on even the 300 Wby........my favorite hunting cartridge. It burns right around 100 gns of powder but it is capable of over 3300 fps with 200 grn bullets in a 26" tube. It is one of the killingest cartridges on the market today, if you can maintain your concentration over the recoil and muzzle blast, both of which are extreme.
I developed this cartridge long before Rem ever thought of it or even the Imperial Magnum came out, I still have the reamer made by JGS and played with it when the only brass I could get was Bertram 404 Jeff. I formed and then fireformed my brass then neck turned it all from 404 Jeff brass. It is one helluva cartridge, but you must be recoil proof, because the recoil is significantly more than even a 458 WM if you do the math, in fact it exceeds my 470 NE.

Awesome rifle ... IMO the Sendero is by far the best bang for the buck for out of the box LR shooting. 300 RUM is badass , you can launch a high BC 230gr. But like some of the other posts recomend ... i would be looking at the 300WM

Adding to the above post , when it comes to recoil ive only shot a 300RUM once. It had a muzzle brake on it , my buddy told me it would " Rattle your teeth " ... i thought he was trying to be funny, i cant explain what it feels like for a large magnum to rattle your teeth ... but try a 300RUM and you will know soon enough

I've found that a great way to master the recoil of the 300 RUM is to shoot a 416 Rigby with 350's at 2700fps from the bench for a while.

Works like a charm.

A Guide Gun in 45/70 with 420's at 1850fps from the bench will make you look forward to the 300 RUM Sendero too...

I've yet to feel any recoil at all when shooting at game with my 300 RUM, the bench is a different story.

I owned two 300RUM rifles, and neither were braked. I find my Marlin 1895 SDT shooting full powder 45-70 loads more uncomfortable to shoot by a wide margin. My 300RUM rifles wore barrels about the same contour as a Sendero, but both had McMillan stocks with Decelerators.

I own a 300RUM in the LH LSS configuration. It is noy as bad to shoot as hot loaded 45-70's or the 375 Ruger African. I doubt I will wear out the barrel. It is not a range gun. I spent time working up loads for it when I got it using 200gr accubonds. Now I check the zero in the fall and use it for hunting but only when I am hunting in conditions that require the extra range. I have other rifles to use for pratice and am unable to use them all. It is very accurate and likes the 200 gr over the 180's

The Remington 700 Sendero SF 11 chambered in .300 Win Mag is HS Precision stock is the long range rifle of my dreams...freak'n breath taking. lebarons has them for $1,240.00 I believe.

If I had the land...like an elevated shooting spot overlooking thousands of yards at every direction, of beautiful wildlife, streams and lakes,.....I would buy this rifle in a heart beat. The .300 Win Mag loaded with Federal 190 gr. BTHP Match is a Loooong range animal, and the Remington 700 Sendero SF 2 is pure ###. Steel rings and 20 MOA steel base, 1,000 scope and it's a match made in heaven.

good rifle but I'd probably get the 300 Win Mag. I see zero practical advantage to going to the Ultra, and many disadvantages

Excellent advice: you can get 2900fps from a 210gr bullet with a 300 Win Mag and will get an accurate barrel life of around 1000 rounds.
You'll get an extra 300fps from a 300 RUM but will get much shorter barrel life, higher recoil and muzzle blast.
Also, 7 Rem Mag is still the gold standard for long range hunting and no one should underestimate the power a high BC 175-180gr bullet at 3000+ fps.

Any way, the Remington Sendero is excellent but also heavy long range hunting rifle.
