Hey Guys,

I know the MK22s haven't been getting much love on this forum and most favor the 10/22 but I'd like to shed some light on how awesome these tacticool .22s can really be. First off there are very few options when it comes to a pre-built tacticool .22 that isn't restricted. Fortunately this guy is one of those non-restricted rifles. To me its a huge bonus as I can take it out plinking and am not restricted on mag capacity.

The MK22 has taken some heat in the past about the BCG bolt not being long enough and needing loctite. The one I got was of the second generation. From my understanding they have been fixed for quite some time and I can vouch for mine. The BCG bolt was definitely longer and had loctite on it. There was plenty of loctite on most other bolts too and overall it was and is still holding solid.

The other piece that was criticized was the stock. ISSC was quick to fix this and my stock is very sturdy. I met another fellow who had one of the first generation MK22s and his comment as well was that the stock is MUCH better than his.

Finally, there have been issues with light primer strikes. There are couple fixes for this and are well documented. The trigger group and BCG is exactly the same as the GSG5 as well, so there is plenty of information out there.

There were a few fixes I did to make sure everything runs smooth.

Firing pin:
-Stoned the firing pin (not sure if it was necessary but I did it anyways)
-Removed 2 coils on the FP return spring (This definitely made the FP hit harder. Have not had a light strike in the last 400 rounds I put through it

Trigger:
-Epoxy fix to remove trigger creep. This is pretty well documented for the GSG5. With a dremel and a couple washers you can easily remove the trigger creep. I did mine with epoxy as well. Definitely worthwhile if you're comfortable doing it

Body:
-Replaced 2 takedown screws with small HK push pins. These are available for the GSG5 and are relatively inexpensive. They make tearing down this rifle for cleaning a snap as all you have to do is pop out 2 pins and your lower is off.

Aesthetic modifications:
-Cut out the web inside the trigger guard. Looks more SCAR-ish now
-Replaced flash hider with thread adapter made by user willisworms here
-coming soon: Gen 3 SCAR cheek riser

Here are some quick pictures:
comparison of 1) Stock flash hider 2) thread adapter from willisworms with muzzlebrake 3) Thread adapter without the 1/2x28 thread to shorten the barrel (also willisworms handywork)

The last time I took this guy out I had 1 stovepipe and 1 failure to fire in 400 rounds. I'm pretty sure both were due to crappy ammo as some of the bullets were loose in the casing and the fail to fire had a strong deep strike from the firing pin. The trigger is clean and crisp and this thing is a ton of fun. For those of you on the fence, I highly recommend this rifle. For those that have it and aren't impressed, try some of the mods and don't give up on it.

Got one coming in the mail to me this week, looking forward to it. Might have to bug ya for more details on the mods you did at some point :)

I see your also running a sightmark magnifier/red dot combo, I have a 7x and ultrashot pro spec nv on my SR-22:

How do you like your 7x? Mine is a 3. I like it but am tempted to go higher. Also, feel free to reach out if you need help. There is a good thread on fnforum.net that has a ton of information too

Nice rifles!! I was hoping that either of you can point me in a direction of where you purchased the sightmark reddots?

Willisworm did a fantastic job on those thread adapters.
Thanks! Yes willisworms adapters fit perfect. I'm very happy with it.
Sightmark doesnt ship to canada so I ordered mine on eBay. Shipping wasn't cheap so I got both sight marks and a picatinny flashlight to average down my shipping. In the end it was a fair deal

looking to purchase my first rifle in the next month, and ive been doing the SR22/ISSC/715T dance in my brain ever since i decided i wanted to get my license in December. i think for me its gonna come down to being able to get the ISSC or SR22 in my hands first when i get my PAL number. SR has a better rep, but these MK22s are so cool right out of the box.
thanks for the thread

I'm glad the adapters worked out. I have been looking into a home anodizing set-up, but the cost/dangerous chemical aspect is high. I started a thread in black rifles about another adapter, it does not seem to be drumming up much interest so anodizing is probably out.

Thanks for the hook-up on the pins fchan they work great!

Works great, it has a bit of a "sweet spot" for the eye relief. A few people were curious about it at the range today :)
I ordered a NCStar 3-9x42 mildot tactical scope for my ISSC.

Been having problem with my nephews Scar, the good ones from the small first batch that came in with no real issues, shot about 2000 rounds of good ,bad and the ugly threw with no real failure, till recently, first 2 shots are fine, third you can here the striker fall is half the strength, I am going to clean it all up, and try talking 2 coils off as you have suggested, thanks Dale Z!

Where did you get your 7x from? Price range? I've also found the sweet spot for my 3x to be a bit limited.

No problem, hope it helps.

The bcg gets pretty grimy and has a tendency to slow the fp down causing the light strikes. Stoning the fp takes out the high spots and gives more clearance. On top of that, a couple coils was enough for me to get consistent strikes but won't be a substitute for a thorough cleaning. You really have to take it down to the bare firing pin and clean it out with a toothpick.

Got it here:
http://www.mach1airsoft.com/content/7x-tactical-magnifier-sts-sightmark

Came to about $188 after shipping... kinda pricey, but it does the job well enough!

Thanks! That's not too bad and is right around what I ended up paying for my 3x. Overall I'd say its pretty reasonable if you're going for tacticool. If anyone is comparing these against the $50 ebay specials, keep in mind the sightmark magnifiers can be adjusted for windage and elevation. It's quite nice to have your reticle centered without needing a special mount that has windage and elevation adjustments.

I might have to save up for that 7x :) but let me know if you feel the need to get rid of yours once your mil-dot sight comes in ;)

Hehe, keepin the sightmark stuff on my sr22... the 3-9 mil dot scope is for my issc that i'm waiting on :)

Be sure to post some pics when it comes in.

I also forgot to mention I smoothed out some angles on the mags to make insertion smoother.

Definitely worthwhile if you hate slapping in the mag every time.

Also this may be a useful thread for many MK22 owners:
http://fnforum.net/forums/fn-scar-16s/25613-issc-mk22-supressors-scopes-acessories-etc.html

I would recommend going through it all if you have the time but the highlights on fixing the operation of a poorly performing MK22 is post 554

My post #689 goes about how to remove the trigger creep and I think someone on there is now talking about making a custom plate so you dont have to modify yours if you dont want to.

thanks for the links, now where do i find one of these for a reasonable price in Canada?

I received my Mk22 last Wednesday.

When I first took it to the range I was able to shoot about 200 rounds through it without any light strikes, ftf, fte and ftf of any kind. After that though, a light strike happened. At first I thought nothing of it. Then it happened again. And again. And again. After digging through some youtube videos I found the solution. When you take off the butt stock there are two allen key screws. One faces up towards the top of the gun and the other faces into the bolt carrier group. All you have to do is tighten that screw (If you're having light strikes there's a 99.9% chance that it will be loose) and you'll be good to go. After I did that I took it to the range once again. Shot 200 rounds and no light strikes until 200+ rounds. I took my Mk22 home and disassembled it again and found that the bolt had come loose, causing the light strikes again. Since I was at that step already, for good measure I cut 2 coils off the firing pin spring. fchan (OP) guided me through the process and it was very easy to do. Thanks again for the help bro! Now I'm looking at the adapter that willisworms makes and I'm debating getting one. They look pretty sweet on black but I'm not sure how it'd go with my tan.

If you're a girly-man who doesn't like tools or a 10/22 fan boy, look elsewhere for a plinker. If you're not afraid of taking 30 minutes to make some adjustments and getting to know your rifle in the process, I completely recommend this rifle. I'm very happy with mine and I can't see why it will be leaving my vault any time soon. Granted, a new rifle shouldn't need these adjustments, but if you're in the market for an FN SCAR and have the money, be my guest and pay 3+ grand.

I removed the firing pin stop, and 2 coils from the FP spring. 200 round today, and only 2 light primer strikes. Sweet. I may take another coil off, and other things. I was shooting Winchester Super X high Velocity ball ammo. This is good as its easier for me to get that over CCI mini mags. I also have to get a new optic as my red dot sight was very hard to get on target at 25 yards. I'm thinking of some magnification. All in all, this is a fun azz gun. Next weekend it's going to be a gophers worst nightmare!
