I'm going to try a ladder test on a new .223. My question is regarding the distance to try the test. Most literature says 2-300 yards but I'd like to shoot at 100 yards so I can mark each shot. ( Walking back and forth for each shot gets a little tedious )

Any and all suggestions appreciated

there is not enough difference/spread in the shots at 100 yards to make a remarkable difference and easy to read diagnosis of the results...

If your only going to shoot 100 yards for your work up loads then I would start with 5 rounds loaded at each powder weight and shoot groups.

Also if you only intending to shoot 100 yards your best 300 yard group might not be your best 100 group load, your best 100 yard load may not be the best 300 yard load.....see where I am going with this......

Okay, what's a ladder test. I opened this thinking we might be talking about treestands but now see that isn't the case.

If you have a target at your bench the same as the one you are shooting at, you can use a spotting scope to look at each shot down range and then mark the location on your target beside you with a pen. that way you don't have to walk downrange for each shot.
