Anyone using H380 in their 22-250?
My nosler book calls for minimum 32 grains max 36 the hodgsons website calls for 38 low and 41 high
9 grains seems like a large discrepancy

This is for a 50 grain vmax out of a browning abolt 1-14 twist
My normal load is 35 grains of H4895 or 36 grains of varget

I have yet to own a 22-250 that would not digest 39 grains of H380 behind a 50 grain pill safely.
However, I would still start 3 grains below and work up safely.

I thought the name H380 came from Hodgdon finding that 38 grains of it behind a 50 or 55 grain bullet was an accurate load in a .22-250?

My .22-250 liked 39 grains of H380 behind a 50 grain bullet for accuracy, as always start lower and work up. IMR 4064 is also a good powder.

Please double check to be sure that you are using the correct load information for the powder you are using.

The current Nosler Reloading Guide Seven calls for 37.0 to 41.0 grains of H380 for the 50/52 grain bullet which is pretty much identical to Hodgsons website.
The only powder in the 32 to 36 grain range you mention is Varget.

When I had my Ruger M77 .22-250 my go-to load was 38 grains of H380 behind a 55 grain Hornady SX.
It's always a good idea to start lower and work up, watching for signs of excess pressure (cratered or flattened primers).

I used H380 in one 22/250, enough to shoot the barrel out twice. 36 grains was all it would take with 52s. H380 seems to have varied greatly over the years which is fine if you work up to your loads and buy lots when you buy. I couldn't quite forgive it for being so fickle summer to winter so have moved on.

My Nosler is book number 4. And This is why you should always check multiple sources.

From the current Nosler number 7 manual

Just for interest sake what is the loading for 55 grain bullets in the #4 manual? #7 has 35.5 to 39.5 grains.

Thanks for the information.
Reading up on H380 there is a fair bit of lot to lot variation with the powder which may account for the difference in the books.

^^^ is what I find in my R700 22-250, I go a bit hotter (40-40.5) in the winter for coyote loads and a bit lighter (38-38.5) in the summer for gophers crows and other vermin!

Nosler #3 & #4 has 32-36 gr
Nosler #6 & #7 has 37-41gr
So they changed data somewhere between #4 and #6
I wonder what #5 is listed at

ps: I liked H-380 too in my 22-250, but found out more stable, accurate powder after a while
