The Calgary Easter Gun Show Thread after it's all said and done for another year.

My buddy I went with lucked on on Friday. 3x SA marked WWI dated Mosin Nagants -Tula, Remington and another maker that starts with an 'S' but I am too lazy to look up the spelling on the internet. He literally stole them at $195, $150 and $150.

I found a nice 1919 WWII 30 cal ammo can, a nice RG34 cleaning kit and one Boys AT round. Someone had a Boys with almost all the accessories and 25 rounds for $10,000. It was in museum quality, so really probably a fair price.

I also saw a Czech refrub swp45 K98. I would have bought it for the $600 asking price - especially with the current price of RC's but the receiver/barrel had some pretty good pitting.

I think there was something for everyone, you just had to take your time searching.

Ya, the past two years I tried talking to him and he just wouldn't believe his complete mismatch ZF41 scoped K98 wasn't a "matching and complete" example like he was trying to pass it as.

This year, everytime I passed I just let anyone looking at it know the truth.

I remember the first time I saw it, he told me it was a complete, all matching example. I asked him why then was there electro penciling on the bolt and his answer was "I don't know what that is"

What an idiot.

I hope he reads this thread.
The $8500 k98 was actually a BYF44 bolt mismatch only, looked pretty right to me. Included the can and quite a few accessories. The seller is a good guy.
The other ZF41 scoped k98 for sale by a different guy was a put together piece that has been for sale for some time. I know the guy is on this board, but based on the 90 seconds I spoke to him, I know he's no authority on the subject of k98s. Not that I am either, but apparently for some if you stand behind a table at these shows you pretty much are an expert on everything. Sorry I wrecked your sale, bud ;) I remember why I didn't buy from you in years past.
I enjoyed the reenacting group reaching out to the public and offering people to handle their dewats.
P&D simply rocked. It was nice to see the CFC booth there, alot of guys had good questions and answers.
Teri's Japanese section, as always ruled. Always willing to help out a newbie.
Food sucked, parking sucked, crowds were not bad, I spent like $12 on some parts for my projects.
I will be back next year for sure.

I was there for all three days and had a good time, although the prices were a bit out of whack with a few of the dealers.

Only bought a couple of things: Picked up one of the eastern bloc dewats that just made it into the country: a CZ30. I don't normally buy the non-commonwealth stuff, but it was neat to see the lineage of the mk1 Bren gun...things like the shoulder strap, the dial up side mounted sight, and the extendable bipod. It was neat to see the tables of dewats the dealer had.......nice to see them able to come into the country again after years of them not being allowed. Dealer mentioned it took 16 months to get them through. Things like CZ59s, CZ30s, lots of rifles, folders, and subguns....hopefully they will eventually start bringing in Brit guns again.

Also picked up a beautiful mag chest with C/l\ and Chinese script to go with my 8mm Chinese script Bren.

Lastly I picked up a M63 AA mount, which I hope to use with my M1919.

Some smaller parts as well.

Also bought 2 pieces of pizza and a couple of pepsis. If anyone thought they were expensive, think back to the 3 day parking pass at only $45. Wasn't that long ago you bought an acre of land for just a bit more than that around here.

It was a good social event, and lots to see. I had a couple of tables, so I didn't have a chance to see it all. I think they had around 800 tables this year. They were originally only going to sell 700.

Yes, he is a wealth of information (where is that sarcasm emoticon LOL)>> I learned that my matching and complete BNZ rifle is in fact a mismatched Russian capture worth around $300 or so. I said I won't tell him his business but he was wrong. I did tell the older couple looking for an original sniper for their son to look elsewhere. They actually spent about 30 minutes talking to me after.
It just chokes me, gun people sometimes. Some of the very best people I know are collectors and shooters, and some of the worst are collectors and shooters. Just like every other game I suppose. Would be nice seeing some integrity with a few of the selelrs there. I have more respect for the dude selling Nazi barbies than this guy with his table full of rifles.

Very interesting report Joe.

Too bad the BYF44 was a bolt mismatch, even if legitimate I'm afraid for that kind of money I'd continuing searching for one with original bolt. I just wouldn't want to compromise.

Funny to hear about that other K98k, but not surprised. If you want some more good laughs go check out the listings on Firearms Canada. I'm not sure sometimes if this type of person actually believes what they have is the real deal or if they just have a great deal of patience for the right sucker to come along and buy it?

I think the guy knows what he has is wrong. Maybe bought it himself years ago and just trying to recoup costs, or maybe consigning for someone who wants a set amount. He knows he is scamming it, it's been for sale for at least a few years, and I'm not the first who has been turned off by it.

Sadly, I doubt he's the worst. But then I meet jus one decent seller or see one great display and it makes the show all worthwhile.

Saw a G43 that was way overpriced. He wanted over $5100 for a mismatched serial numbers piece. Did anyone check out the british enfield sniper with the rel scope and the repro mount and shipping case? Comments?

Correct on sniper. It was in very last row on end closest to the entrance.
was all bad on it? i know transit case and scope mount were repros.... scope looked real as did .303 t

G43 was at wolverine but way overpriced. 2k-3k is more in line

I agree. I was there last year looking for a nice G/K 43(still looking) and I'm pretty sure it was the same G43 but for around 4k without the scope and mount. I think they got it from an estate sale over a year ago but I couldn't find two sets of numbers that matched on the whole gun. Guess they figured they would jazz it up with a scope and repop mount and hope some sucker would buy it. I would have been interested in it for a shooter at around $2,500- 3k but the asking price was so far out of line that any reasonable offer could be taken as an insult so I passed. I wonder what they will be asking for it next year?

I konow, last year I offered them $2500 and it was like I was wasting their time. I guess I was. :)

I went on the Friday. It was my wife's birthday and she was with me and pretty impatient so I had to rush around. Saw a few things decently priced that piqued my interest. There was a pair of wartime Longbranch No. 4s on a table for $425 and $455 which isn't too bad considering most wartime ones I've seen on the EE are $500+. Didn't look at numbers on them or anything.

Can someone post all the A.A.C.C.A. fridge magnets from the gun shows they gave out over the years at the door with admission.

Who was the dealer/seller ? Do they have a website or storefront ?

Thank you
