Help me spend my money... .270 Win up to $1000 tax in...

I would agree with the Remington 700CDL. See a lot of them on EE and they don't seem to move. May get a good deal and they are great guns with smooth actions and excellent finish. Sleepers IMHO
 
Another vote for Winchester 70 FW in .270. I got a new one in 30-06 and LOVE it. LeBaron has the best price on them $665+ tax. I'd pick the one from Epps if it is in stock.

I'm sure the other options are great too.
 
Bullets will need to be seated deeper in the blr if you are using reloads. Mag length will prevent you from setting the bullet closer to the lands.

But you would have a 270 lever! You could get a 270 wsm in the blr.
 
Well I am on my way to Sail to check out the Tikka T3, and the Browning X-Bolt.

I think it is really down to these 2 rifles, as they are very comparable, and come in similar models with similar features.

Accuracy leads me towards the Tikka, but fit finish and overall build quality have been said to be better on the Browning.

Please don't forget that 270 WIN bullet size is .277 so 270 Winchester rounds puts you over and above the calibre restriction of under .275" so you might be illegal with that round south of highway 89. Go for 6.5X55 swedish mouser. Bullet size is .264 which puts you within limit, or simply go for cal 243 WIN, ammo is relatively cheap and plentiful.
 
In my limited experience loading lever guns is an art all to its self.
Do you reload now and have good experience with it?
The small base dies and possibilities of having to crimp rounds tested me to no end while reloading for the auto loaders.
But, then again I didnt have a mentor to teach me the finer points and You Tube can not critic your process...
Wby Vanguard in .270 would be my vote, but if you are a Browning guy, then have at it.

My municipality has the same restriction and it is listed as .270 caliber. The by-law officer is only going to look at what it says on the rifle I you are out shooting it. The actual projectile being .277" isn't going to make a difference.

The Browning seems like a great rifle. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Willing to go into a legal battle with a caliber tech savvy game worden? I'm just saying, somthing to keep in mind...decision ultimately belongs to the OP.

I don't think there is a single reference to the .277 measurment anywhere on the firearm, it's box, or the ammo, and it's box.

Would be hard to convince a judge that the average person should/would know any better.

Besides, everyone around here shoots a .270 and every gunstore recommends it specifically because of the regs.
