SKB 500 - Install Choke Tubes???

I've got an opportunity to buy an SKB 500 12 gauge 2 3/4" for a really good price. Problem is it's fixed choke Full - Modified.

Any one know for sure if it can have choke tubes installed? Who can I send it to have it done.

12 ga is very easy to get done in canada just depends on where you live to make it easier for you.
If in Ontario epps does them
 
I've heard conflicting reports that the SKB 500 12 gauge walls are too thin. Some reports say it is and some reports that it's fine. Mind you all reports were from the US.

So I'd like to know for sure before I buy
 
What kind of shooting do you do? Open the chokes to modified and improved cylinder and you will be good to go for most shooting. I have guns with choke tubes and I never change them. If the gun is a good price, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it because it didn't have tubes--but, this is just my opinion.
 
Supercub nailed it. Have a good smith ream them out to what you want. I find screw in chokes to be overrated. Rarely (except for turkey,clays) do I find I have the right choke in the gun when a shot presents itself. I have always and continue to be a poly choke fan. This won't help with your stack barrel.

you stole it. A very well made shotgun, shoot it first before you do anything. You could probably flip it on the EE for 500 depending on condition.
 
Ya a 20 gauge SKB 500 goes for 800-1000 in good shape. The 12's probably 500-600. There is one just listed in 12 g for $625 on the EE. You got a damn good deal for $275.

I have a SKB Model 7300 with fixed Mod. One of my Sons needs one for turkey hunting and I thought it may be ok but was considering having the barrel threaded for screw in Rem chokes but wonder if it would be worth it.

Yes, they do ... and were finished in "black chrome" instead of blue. Tough to work on.
Installing choke tubes, IF the barrels are thick enough... will take the price up to
more than the gun is worth.

Even in I/C / Mod it will however make a very effective waterfowler with steel shot !

I had a couple of 500's, a 600 Skeet and a 200E (SxS) ... all good, reliable doubles.

How long ago was that? I have a 16ga. Model 31 I want to have choke tubed and I have yet to find someone in Canada that can do it.

No one in canada can do a 16ga unless that has changed in the past two years or I could not find anyone and asked here also I think. How long. I get them mixed up since I have had a few 28ga and a 410 done by them also lately. And of course a SUPERX1 ;) skeet barrel but that was years ago.
Within two years for sure. It was 199 plus the taxes etc but I think it went up to 219 just lately.

Humm model 31 the best pump ever in my mind. Definately the smoothest
I had them do a 870 16ga wingmaster and a 1100 16ga barrel over the years
