Getting a savage 93r17 as my first gun and need to find a scope to complete the package. My budget is kinda limited, I'm looking at $150 as my absolute max. Some of the features I'm looking for are, minimum 12 power, resettable turrets. No preference given to a particular reticle or if its fixed or variable. I would like to buy from a store local to southern B.C. (lower mainland, out as far as mission/ abbotsford as well as the Naniamo south to Victoria on the Island) or someone who ships for free. In advance thanks for the input.

cheers

i have a bushnell banner 4-16x 40 with adjustable objective on mine, and it works awesome for me. i got the model with illuminated reticle (useless for me) on a great deal and love it.

Does it the scope work without the illumination feature turned on, or does it always have to be on? I would hate to get to the range and find out the battery is dead and not be able to shoot.

The 4-16 banners that I've seen have not come with the AO feature though I've seen the 4-12's with AO is it a special edition or and older model you have? As far as the the resettable w/e knobs is this a feature that is convenient to use, both to reset the knobs after the initial zeroing and after making any adjustment while shooting.

Yeah I haven't seen too many of the 4-16's either. Not sure how old it is, I bought it used, was mounted but never fired. And time be honest I don't even know if my adjustments are resetable.

i would suggest to look at hawk scopes for rim fires for shure i picked up a 3-9 by 50 mm varmint scope that is just awesome brand new for 79.99 and i have bought 4 more since for other rifles no problems yet thousands of rounds throught the fixed 4 powers i use to hunt with the tac ones come with resetable turets for your budget id look at that they are worth every penny and you can get up to 24 power tac for under 230 where im at look localy to see if theycarry them or will bring them in for you

This doesnt quite meet all of your criteria but is a great 17 scope. Bushnell banner 3.5-10x38. It has bdc turrets which are pretty bang on for 17gr hornady ammo and it has ao which is nice. Comes in right around $100 and is pretty clear glass.

I have a Tasco Target / Varmint 6-24 x 44 on mine.

At 100 meters you can see the holes in the target from a .17 round and the best part is they only cost $100!!

Its not on my rifle yet, but it should be this weekend. Got a Vortex CF II 6-18x44 bdc. I had a Banner on it and didnt like it.

Was wearing a vortex viper 3-9x40. If you are not shooting at a black target you can see the holes in the paper with it as well. Sold the savage and got a cz its wearing the same scope.

You can see .17 holes in paper at 100 meters with a 3-9 x 40 scope?????? Holly crap you must have some good eyes!! I had a 4-12 x 42 scope on my .223 and replaced it because I couldn't see the holes in the paper at 100 meters on 12x magnification, and I have 20-10 vision!!

Yes. I use those orange sticker circles on white paper. Adjust the scope to hit the white paper and I can see the holes. If its a black target can't see 30 cal holes with 16 power.
I like 3-9 for shooting gophers. Most of the time I just set it to 5 or 6 and shoot.

I sold my soul and bought a Tasco Target 6-24x42 from Cabela's. The reason being is I plan to use the gun in a gopher patch with a giant mound and varying distance shots. Having the lowest setting x6 magnification becomes impractical when stalking game.
