Hope this thread hasn't been done before, but I'm just curious what other people think about what might be left in crates (sks, svt40, mosin's) over seas and if we'll see the day when there aren't any more shipped into Canada?

There will be more for some time I am sure. I bet there are still tons of mountains and mines full of them. I would see SVT's drying up first, SKS would be the last.
John from Marstar would have the most incite as he buys quite the quantity of surplus

Westrifle has been quoted as posting that the current SKS stock in Canada is the last of the cheap Russian SKS. Newer batches will cost more apparently due to increased demand and lower stock piles. Lots were made. They won't last forever.

even if John from Marstar could find out from his suppliers, would he ever pass the information on to us? there could be a couple hundred thousand left in crates, but if some think the supply is drying up, demand goes up and we buy more, never mind, no problem with that.

They are drying up... not that you wont see them again... but expect price increase.... The Americans are going crazy for firearms... and we have to out bid them ...we will see far lower amounts at a higher price... supply and demand will be in effect.

Seeing as marstar is dealing with the Chinese SKS, others might be better to talk to about the Russians. Apples and oranges when it comes to supply.

I thought they cannot import Russian made military arms. If not, then their current panic buying does not affect our access to SVT or SKS.

No chinese or russian military guns going into the states really. I'm thinking the stocks are getting low due to U.N pressures to destroy stock piles and other stockpiles getting moved into warzones like syria ect.

If you want it, buy it now. Like Zelly said, they are only going to go up in price. And even if there are still large stockpiles outside of Canada, who's to say they'll get imported. Maybe the UN ATT or future Canadian laws will make importation not worth it to the vendors. Just bought an SVT-40 from SFRC because of this.

Wasn't it from China, not Russia ? or both of them ?

AFAIR, Serguey from Westrifle has commented that he was competing with US buyers on Mosin surplus.

Russian and Chinese SKS direct from Russia and china are banned for import to the us. Import of both from different countries, ie Chinese SKS from Africa and Russian SKS from other Baltic states can still get in.

The mosins going to the us are via this route.

If you think the Russians or Chinese are going to abide by a UN declaration that prevents them from making money....then I've got a 1936 SKS I can sell you...numbers matching !

Our own weak ass government bending over to the UN and preventing them from being imported is another story....yeah, we may have possible availability issues in the future

I was under the impression that Russia has been destroying surplus arms lately, in the millions. AK's and RPK's included.

From what I've read, the 4million guns to be destroyed have been deemed no longer serviceable...there's also reports that large numbers of guns earmarked for destruction have gone missing lol

Not dried up yet. I can't speak to the SVT-40 situation too well, but Chinese SKS are going to be around for a while and if I had to guess, I'd say Russian models will be around for less time, but still aren't going anywhere anytime too soon.

We have a few more years before we really need to worry.

One of the problems is the local officials in Russia have caught on to this demand for SKS.
They used to let them go for $25 per unit. They have salt mines full of them.
Now that they see just how many are leaving the country, they have upped the unit cost to $125, or more.
Everyone wants thier cut. Nothing goes without many stamps of approval.

Expect future shipments to find the market price for the demand.
I'm glad I got in before this. Had a feeling.
