I've found myself wanting a 1911 lately. I was thinking about the Ruger SR1911, until I shot it yesterday. It was a fine gun, but it just didn't scratch the itch for me. I've seen good reviews on Smith &Wessons offering, but I haven't seen one around so I haven't had a chance to shoot it. Does anyone have one, or had the opportunity to shoot it?

This is a link to the model that interests me: http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/...57751_757751_757751_ProductDisplayErrorView_Y

S&W Model 108299, it's on my buy list. The external extractor is supposed to be better than the internal. S&W has it down to a science as far as external extractors go. Some people like the look but other don't. Melonite on stainless frame and slide is tougher than a blued gun so the finish will hold up really well. I seen a new stainless Colt Gold Cup Trophy pop up and bought that instead. Shooterschoice.ca has them in stock, Roger is an awesome guy to deal with.

Great, that's what I was hoping to hear. I've just come from my LGS and they're tracking one down for me. If anyone else wants to chime in, I'm interested in hearing your experience with them.

Just bought an all stainless steel SW1911. It is a truly great looking and feeling 1911! My first one btw. Can't wait to go shoot it but waiting for the transfer to go through but the CFO is back-logged one week b/c of the long weekend! RRR! Anyway, you can't go wrong with the Smiths. It is truly fantastic! :)

I bought a S&W 1911 PD, went straight to the range, no cleaning what-so-ever and the first round was a bullseye at 10 yards. Pistol felt balanced, nice trigger pull and no issues.

I'm just curious how the scandium frame of the SW1911PD handles the recoil of the .45? I really wanted to see one in person but they are all gone! Looks like a great gun but I settled with the all stainless SW1911. Thanks.

Thanks Padawan but I'm going to wait for the specific model I indicated in my first post. I'm not a fan of picatinny rails or forward slide serrations on a 1911. I like a more classic G.I. look. It looks like I'll have plenty of time to save up, because S&W only has three SKU's in stock right now, none of which are the one I want.

We still have a few left. It's probably because we took close to 1/2 of the 250 that came in.
