PGW Timbewolf pros and cons? looking for opinions

Almost all of the shooters I know who are looking at these types of higher end rifles reload and custom tailor a load for their rifles..........

that confirms what I am saying. if the OP is looking for that then, this is one rifle that really fits the bill

From what I have seen, most guys with Sako TRGs, DSRs, etc also reload to get the utmost accuracy possible............very rarely have I seen guys using factory ammunition...........that was the point I was trying to get across.... ;)

Loading for accuracy is the name of the game but besides that, if you can afford to feed a .338LM a steady diet of store bought kibble, you probably wouldn't worry much about the cost of the rifle. Six bucks a round adds up fast.

Ya thought of that after I posted. I was thinking more in terms of working VS. private shooters in Canada. Most of the guys I know looking for these types of rifles are using them for their intended purpose and do not reload. Yes there are places in the world where that actually happens.

Thanks guys all great info. any one shoot one and have some load data i could use as a starting point say 250 scenar in front of H1000 or reloader 25?

Not sure about 250gr but I got this 6 shot with the cold bore outside the cluster with 300 SMK and 86gr of RL 25

I'm just wondering, at what point does a guy just build a custom rather then paying a large some of money for what is still a factory rifle?

I understand it is nice to be able to just pick something out and have it with in a few days and get out shooting. But when u start talking this amount of money, and you are throwing around terms like "high end" "accuracy"

If you truly want the best then why not go the custom rout? By my quick math a guy can buy the Cadex chassis if that's what your really after, an action, barrel, trigger, brake and have it put together for less money then what you will spend on a PGW. Even if it costs the same you still have a better rifle.

If I am correct the only part of the PGW that is built by them is the action? If you can buy all the exact same components anyways and have them put together by someone who is going to take more time and effort assembling the rifle and do all for the same or less money that what it the point of buying a PGW?

If you go the custom rout You will have more choice in the components used, and you can use a better action than what PGW manufactures anyways. You can request the exact chamber dimension you desire for what ever bullet you are primarily going to be using. What ever head space you want, and you know everything is going to be perfectly true.

Yes there are a few gunsmiths that turn out work that may not be that much better then what u might get from PGW. But if u use a good gunsmith you are going to get a better product then you will with a factory rifle, especially a factory rifle built by PGW

Just something to think about anyways. If you want to talk about the best and most accurate rifle in this price range why settle.

I kown the PGW fans are going to jump all over me for saying anything negative about them. But I really don't care, the fact is there are other factory rifles out there that are better then PGW it's just that simple.

Just noticing a trend with your posts, did you own a PGW and not like it? What rifle do you shoot?

I do not own any PGW rifles. Two guys that I go shooting with both owned PGW, they have sold them and probably won't buy PGW again. After seeing there rifles, and after seeing some of the comments that some of the PGW employees write on this forum I won't be buying one either.

Now on the other side of the coin I have a a couple buddies who own PGW rifles and they have nothing but good things to say about the workmanship, accuracy, and customer service..............

The experience your shooting buddies had with PGW can be had with any of the rifle manufacturers/businesses out there...............and I have seen that happen with other well known businesses/builders on this forum............. ;)

I have owned many different rifles. I will buy what I feel ever I feel is the best option for the required task regardless of brand name or personal preference. Or at least I try my best to be open minded and consider all options before chosing a rifles just because I like the manufacture or how it looks.

What I was getting at though, if your going to be spending this kinda cash, why not get your money's worth? Like I said, I'm kinda curious as to how much money a person will spend before just getting the custom rifle built exactly how they want it for exactly what they want to do with it?

If the custom was way more money I would understand why you would just buy a factory rifle. But in this case........[/QUOTE

Just trying to put your comment in to context.
I respect your input and your opinion, It sound like the age old conflict ford vs Chevy. Asking a guy that drive an H-1 Hummer what he get for gas mileage. but I won't Ask Corvette owner what they think of a Porsche or BMW. Thank you for your informed comment. I know a PGW is not the best bang for the buck. BUTif I was looking for value for the dollar I would go buy a Savage FCP HS precision .338 lapua and save my money to put a smit and bender PM II 12.5-50 on it and ring steel at 1200 M all day long.

Doesn't matter how much you like something or how well you shoot it, there is always someone smarter here than you that knows different.
I personally have been disappointed with custom builds that approach the same money as a PGW that aren't worth sh$t when you go to sell them.
Again...whatever trips your trigger is right for you.
