Ok,.... so I stuck my foot in my mouth and purchased a 10/22 Takedown from Lebaron yesterday....after playing with it @ the gun counter...well, you know how it is :). Thats three .22's from Lebaron in three weeks...a pretty slick Remington 597 HB with 6 mags(3 tens and three 30 rounders), a super cute Savage Rascal w/wood stock, and of course the Ruger takedown yesterday. While @ the counter I inquired about extra mags, but they were out...but more are on the way...good stuff...BUT, when I inquired about the high cap BX-25 from Ruger...nothing!...just a couple of aftermarket high caps available. Apparently the RCMP found a loophole to keep them out of Canada...due to a stupid statement on the packaging claiming that they can also be used in one of Rugers handguns. Is Ruger going to attempt a Canadian package?...can a disclaimer or possibly a factory installed collar to the mag prevent pistol use?...Ruger has ruled out an entire country with a stupid statement....time to make it right.

Disallowed because the Ruger 10/22 Charger "pistol" (just a shortened 10/22 basically) can take these magazines. I do believe the RCMP dictate that a magazine that can be used in a rifle and a pistol (unless an exception) is prohibited unless pinned. Someone posted the legislation once and it was a bit of a pain to get through, but it shuts us down pretty well.

That was me who posted it, most recently in this thread: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?888810-BX-25-made-by-ruger

It's not because they happen to fit in both, but because Ruger actually states they are manufactured for both the 10/22 rifle and Charger handgun. That's why they have to be limited to 10 rounds or else they're a prohibited device. Butler Creek mags happen to fit in both, and are legal to use in both, but because the company doesn't mention the Charger in their advertising, the mags are viewed as being made only for the 10/22 rifle, so they have not capacity limit, no matter what they're used in.

Here's the company advertising for the Ruger and Butler Creek mags, in case anyone's curious:

Charger is mentioned in the second sentence.

Only mentions the 10/22.

After hearing issues with the other aftermarket magazines, I decided to go with the Alangator Trimag that clamps 3 factory 10 rounders together. What where you buy though, one Canadian supplier charges 4 times what they are worth.
