I wasn't really planning on shooting today but a few people wanted to go. I had a few rounds loaded and grabbed my savage (havn't shot it in a while due to varget shortage around here)
this load was tested and developed at 100 yards and shoots well, I never got a chance to try it at 200 yards and today was the day I figured i'd try, since I didn't have enough ammo to try for the 100yard MOA challange.

the rifle is a savage model 12 action with a 26 inch shillen select match 223. 7 twist barrel, rifle basix 2 trigger, yodave laminate benchrest stock with a weaver t36 scope bushnell 4x4 rings

the load was FL sized winchester brass, CCI 400 primer, 23.7gr Varget, 75gr hornady BTHP match bullet @ 2.260 OAL

5 shots 0.784" at 200 yards.

after this group was shot I was really wishing I had more ammo on hand, I can't wait to take it out again.

thats some mighty fine shooting! .39MOA very nice work.

mighty bright color on that stock too! looks good

thanks I was very pleased, I actualy like the yellow lami

Impressive!

thank you, I don't like doing load development but it sure does pay off.

Great shooting from a somewhat make shift shooting bench....nicely done

it's probably my least favorite bench to shoot from, when a couple guys setup on it, it sure flexes away and gets frustrating, today wasn't so bad only a couple people setup on it.
I used to shoot off of it without the plywood top, that sure helps.

looks like its time to head to port and try it at 300...........

I ran out of elevation and couldn't sight in today at 100 yards, still just over a inch high with the current configuration, no easy fix in sight so I think we might be making a lead ring to slide over the muzzle to weight the barrel down a bit.....or maybe a shim under the front base.......

Thanks guys.
Yodave if you bought those trick tactical millet rings with the rail to could have mounted a red dot or something on top of your scope for closer range....

I hope your joking. Weighting the muzzle?
What caliber are you shooting?
What base? 20moa rail or flat? When you say front base does that mean you are running a 2 piece mount?
An inch high at 100 is fine, Think of all the up adjustment you will have :) Be like having a zerostop turret on your scope. Just dial all the way down and your 1" high at 100yds.

OP, nice shooting.

Thanks guys.

now yer thinking................I wonder if Tam will go for that?? tis her rifle I am messin' with........going to try it tomorrow with the lead weight first.....

I took this rifle back out today to get it sighted in for a 200y match next weekend and bettered the group, same load, 200 yards.
one group was showing great promise and one got away (rotation of the earth, stars weren't in alignment blah blah blah..... it was probably just me)

5 shots at .810, minus the one flyer is .265
the other group (that I thought looked kind of ugly) measured out at .643 can't be to disappointed in that.

That is one nice tight group at 200m. Is it the same load as you listed before or something different?

I bet. Nice work.

thanks, load development can be frustrating but can pay off too.

thank you, same load again yep, don't believe I have much reason to change it again, though I am retiring this batch of Winchester brass and switching to Hornady brass, I hope it works out.

All my rifles are zeroed at 200 prints 2.25 high at 100 sounds like you will have use of all your scopes adjustment ... IMO you should zero close to the maximum point blank range depending on the sise of a real life target you intend on shooting
