.338 Lapua pet loads

Retumbo, H1000, and US869 are the best powders for 338 Lapua. I also had good results with RL-22 in my Rem 700P with 300SMK's before I sold it. My new rifle doesn't like Reloader-22 as much.

Do you have any reloading manuals? Have you checked Hodgdon site for recipes? There are a few loads out there for the powders you listed but you may not get the best results.

There are a few other threads in this section where a few of us have posted loads, have a look around they are in the first 3 pages.

Good luck

just Having problems finding any thing for the 250 scenar's

Don't worry if the load data isn't specifically for the scenar. Just use the data for whatever 250gr (usually an SMK or Hornady bullet) and start at the book minimum and work up. Sometimes the only place to find load data for a spacific bullet is to go to the manufacturers website but then you may not find data for the powder you want to use like I found with my 300gr scenar's.

Hope that helps

Savagelover,
I asked the same question a few weeks ago and didn't get any confirmed responses. What I ended up doing was starting at 86 grs of H-1000 with the 250 Scenars and worked up to 94 grs....didn't try any higher loads as when I got to 94 gr it shot 3 rounds into a group that measured .268" at 100 yards. I haven't tried to much yet at further distance but yesterday I shot 3 rounds at 500 yards and 3 @1115 yards....I need to set up an actual paper or metal target at those ranges so I can measure more accurately, the 1115 yard group was about 12" with 28.5 MOA dialed into the scope. I'm not sure on the muzzle velocity but to get the 28.5 MOA I used the ballistic calculator from the Berger site and entered 2950 ft/sc and it appears to be pretty much dead on as the 1115 yard group was perfectly vertical at that distance and about 18" to the left of POA.
I've also found reports on other sites with 250 Scenars and 94 gr of H-1000 being pet loads and 96grs of Retumbo but I have yet to try my Retumbo.
My gun is a Savage 110 FCP HS Precision 338 Lapua.....just a word of caution....don't take my loads as being safe in your gun, work the load up yourself.
Enjoy!

why not h50bmg.?

Well did some shooting today. 250 scenar's over H1000 COL= 3.612 fired from 26" barrel Timberwolf
92.5=.5, 93=.68 + 1 flyer , 93.5=.75, 94=.5+ 1 flyer, 94.5=.5 most consistent/uniform was group 94.5 H1000.

Where to go from here?

Would help if you said what distance you were shooting at. If you are at 100yds then move out to 200 or 300yds and see what happens.
I have found 100yds with the 338 does not give reliable results and things become much more consistent at 200 or more. So, if you are happy with 1/2moa and it still does 1/2moa at 200 or 300 or more then a little experimenting with seating depth to fine tune the load and it sounds like you are done development and it's time to stretch it way out and see what you can do at 500-1000yds or more if you have somewhere to do it.
Once you find the perfect seating depth then build them all the same from that day forward and enjoy your rifle.

Personally I'd move up to 300gr bullets and aim for a 1/2moa load. The 300gr will be more consistent when you start reaching way out there.

Good luck

Can you find any data for it with the 338? That's why.
