I am looking for some help stripping a Shooters Arms 1911 in 9mm. I understand that I have to depress the spring and rod at the muzzle then turn the cam either to the right or the left in order to remove the slide. Problem I am having is it appears that the cam is getting caught on the rod making it impossible to turn the cam. Before trying to force it I just wanted to put up a quick post to make sure there is nothing I am missing or did not know about that has to be done first. Any help would be appreciated.....

Ive never used the bushing wrench only my fingers, now its is a bit more difficult if you have a full lenght guide rod but nothing special at all. If it is a short guild rod it will press down very easily. Press down on the spring cap untill it clears the bushing thn turn it to the left (put your hand over the spring and cap so they dont go flying) then remove the spring, after the spring is out rotate the bushing to the right and the bushing slides right out.
This is the easy pary wait till yiu get to the slide and slide release, its not hatd it can just make me swear sometimes.
P.S. I watch you tube videos the first few times, that seem to be a very good and easy hands method to learn.

I recently bought a SAM stainless Commander 45. It is the only 1911 of the dozen or so I've owned that absolutely required a bushing wrench to remove the bushing. I'm not complaining as a tight bushing is a good thing for accuracy. Just noting that it apparently is not unusual for SAM pistols.

I have a new sam commander as well, and after breaking it down a few times I still need a wrench to move the barrel bushing as well. I rest the gun on its heel and beaver tail, depress the spring cap with my left thumb and use a non marring set of pliers to rotate the bushing (clockwise). I imagine it will loosen up a bit eventually.

To go with my post above both my SAM short guild rod commander and my SAM Thunderbolt long guild rod government required no tool and were easy to do. Its always easy with the tool, and if uou get one with your gun bonus, if you still have problems just use your finger nail or small screw driver to hold it down as mentioned above by Shanks4300.
