Today is Canada's official Vimy Ridge Remembrance Day ....

Lest We Forget.
 
Some do Remember-Army Cadets (at least here in Ontario) are taught the history of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. To introduce last evenings lesson I asked several questions to test how much was retained from the previous years training. I was impressed that many remembered the significance of this event to our Country as well as dates etc.
DND authorizes the wearing of Vimy Pins on Army Cadet Uniforms from 1 April till 30 June each year.
 
im only here because of war my gradfather was shot in the windpipe in world war one at vimy and met my grandmother in hydepark england wow.I will never forget soldiers deserve more than what we give them
 
Now that I think about it, I did see Vimy briefly mentioned (about 2 sentences) on the news a couple days ago. The Facepalm is needed for this one. The reporter said the battle was significant because it was the first time all four of the Canadian Battalions:rolleyes: fought together under Canadian command.
I suppose I should be happy they even mentioned it........
 
That would have been quite the undertaking, even with 4 Batt.
Sadly today's journalism is pathetic and they can't even research properly.

Big diff. in Batt. and Division.

Vimy Ridge 2007; the 90th anniversary/re-dedication. One of the proudest moments of my life just to be there.

If anyone else was there do you remember when Sierra Noble played the Warrior's Lament on the fiddle? Just beautiful.

No different than the Battle of The Somme, it is hardly mentioned and overshadowed by Canada Day. A few years ago, they had a ceremony for Vimy Ridge Day in my town. Was not too pleased. Too much "look at how much better Canadians were than the Brits, French, and Germans!" Rather disrespectful to all the boys that died on both sides. :(
 
This is a pic that I took from Givenchy Road Cemetery last May. It looked like the trees were cleared between the cemetery and the memorial. I told my wife that we weren't going to France for our honeymoon without seeing Vimy Ridge.

Lest we forget. We can never begin to imagine what these men gave up to protect freedom and give us our future.

My great grandfather fought in world war 1 and two but i cat find any info about his ww1 service.
