Why are the rules about buying primers bs other reloading supplies in the US and bringing them back across the land border

I live in BC and would like to grab some from Washington if possible

Please let me know anything you can. I don't want to get in trouble at border as I am a nexus holder

Why? Ask the USA officials, their regulations are the problem. As to the regulations themselves, tooling as in presses, dies, scales, are not regulated, but bullets, brass, primers, and powder require export permits from the USA officials. If you are caught illegally exporting ammunition or components from the USA, you will not only have the items confiscated, but you will likely be banned from entering the USA.

Components can't be exported from the US legally. That said the Canadian side usually doesn't care, so it would only be if you were stopped at an outbound US checkpoint that you could be in trouble.

Your problem may be finding primers stateside in any quantities.

Every shop in NY state is limiting purchases to 500 primers, and has jacked the price way up.

I can still get em here for $30/1000, so not worth it for me.

Actually they can be legally exported, but permits are required, and procedures must be followed. There are companies that will do this for you legally, if you are willing to pay the price.

Lol... I was in the US last week.
Stopped on a couple of places... There are no reloading supplies.

Well... Very little anyway

As stated above. The Canadian side doesn't really care what you bring back as far as componants as long as it's for your personal use, I have talked to them many times. The US side is the hangup. They don't want to be selling supplies to the terrorists up north ! Tons of regulations which makes it virtually impossible to export from the country. Most of the big US stores won't export because the permits are very expensive and the amount they said they would export does not justify the permit costs! We call them our friends, and what do they call us ?? Not impressed !

Tell me more of this $30/1000...

lebaron :) never any stock but they have the best prices by far for powder and primers. again, it's a matter of them not having good stock levels. that annoys many people which is just fine by me, because i will gladly wait. i cringe at paying 39.99 or so for primers!
