My first build

The barrel is a kreiger with a tight 308 bore, designed for Palma bullets (307 as the true bore diameter). .

I just now read the part where your barrel is a tight .307 bore Krieger.
I also have a tight .307 bore Krieger that does the exact same thing!!!!!

I get most rounds in one nice little cluster and one stupid flyer that ruins the group.
My flyers almost always go to 1:30.

Once in a great while I shoot a great group because I just don't happen to get the flyer, but that is rare.

I shoot F-Class and often get more V's than anyone on the range, but that is followed with a high 4 count that takes me out of the gold.

I got sick of it and bought myself a nice new barrel from Gary Schneider, which I will be shooting this year.

Yikes!!! What was your best load? I'm just a beginner, so there is lots for me to learn before i get competitive.

What would be a top notch 175gr target bullet to try?

I found real good results with the old standby Sierra 175 SMK, but the BC is not as high as I like for 900-1000 yards. Out to 800 yards I like them. Most recently I've been shooting 185 Bergers as do almost all the best shooters (and winners) I know. We are all jamming the lands with as much Varget as we can safely run. Gold Medal match primers are almost exclusive. Lots of the guys are tipping the bullets with the Widden Pointing tool.

Since you have a .307 bore, I assume you have a 1 in 13 twist barrel. That's what I have (which was a mistake BTW) and while many would say it should not work with 185s it does as well as any lighter round, plus they have plenty of BC for 1000 yards.

I originally bought the 1 in 13 because the Palma shooters insist the 155 is all you need for 1000 yards. Well I have learned to beg to differ. If you want to shoot F Class forget the 155 past 300 yards on a calm day. You need 1:12 or faster and shoot 185s or heavier. Anyone who speaks otherwise will be found firmly positioned at the bottom of the F Class score board.

I would say your best bet for eliminating the flyers is to spin your bullets on a Vern Jenke machine if you happen to know someone who has one.

It's definately a 1:12 twist. It was printed on the end of the barrel. Kreiger's website says the 1:12 is the fastest twist they make in a tight bore, for the reason that the long bearing surface of anything heavier than 175 would make too much pressure. So they recommend no heavier than 175gr for their tight bore 1:12.

We have a piss poor selection of bullets here in Winnipeg. I'd like to try a box of 175's to see how they shoot. The 168's were not bad, but just not the 1/2" group I am hoping for.
