Howdy all,

I've got a Browning BLR (pre 81 model) in 308 win. I've had the rifle for years but never used it, shot maybe a box of factory ammo through it to sight in and its been in the safe ever since. I've recently pulled it out and wanted to start using it again as a general purpose hunting/hiking/rambling in the woods gun cause its nice and light a points fast an all. But theres an issue...

I've read that although the mag should hold 4 rounds, it functions better with only three. I've read this on a bunch of threads on other sights after searching it up and experienced for myself that 3 rounds works better. This is annoying though I I'm wondering why that is and how to fix it.

Thanks for the help,
GS

^ i've noticed but theres got to be a fix i mean its a really nice rifle and theres no reason it should no function.

Thanks for the tip.

Anyone know how to get the mag apart to tinker with the spring?

^ Yeah, spare mags for this rifle run into the hundreds for one. I'd rather like to not have to buy a new(to me) mag if it can be helped. Again, anyone know how to disassemble the mags?

Don't mess with mag. They are almost impossible to find, and if you find one they are expensive.

Shop around for a second mag, then decide how much you want to tinker with this one.

wipe the gun down, tell'er she looks pretty and put'er back in the safe! i have the same model, with only one clip aswell. the clip is worth more than my gun is! i wouldnt go messing with the clip unless you had another, and likely you never will find another. i would rather have the option of taking it out once in a while and blasting off a few rounds WITH a clip, than risking screwing up the clip altogether and then having a gun with no hope of finding a clip.

golly, is the issue with these mags that great? Really? I love my BLR's, but really didn't realize the such hard to find-ness of spare mags! Now I feel like a hosed clown for selling a spare long action BLR mag for cheap as a bag of peanuts at the last gun show! I don't have any use for the long action ones, I'm a short action BLR fan, only. Dam it! I have a Win Mod 100 308 mag that I will trade for a Browning BLR short action mag, if there is a swapper out there. Just PM me. Please, lets do a swap! Lets both of us be happy!

Ya...mine did that too. There were issues with the mag tolerances. Out of the five mags I had. Three were NFG. I mic'd some of the dimensions and found that the three jammers were also minutely different in shape than the other two. Took about two hours, but I managed to get it to at least feed without jamming.

In frustration, I just sold it, because with the wrong mag in it, it would still jam when cycling fast. Went to a bolt rifle and a semi. Jams stopped. The only lever I own are Marlins...and they function flawlessly.
