Anybody hunted gobblers at Ganaraska Forest ( Ontario WMU 73)? Someone mentioned it to me over the weekend as a decent spot. Anyone hunted the area?

Thanks. :)

Haven't hunted turkey there but I live in 73 (Blackstock area) and it is an odd sight not to see a turkey on my way to work. They are a frequent sight in the farmers fields around me.

On a bird related note, I've also seen a few peacocks in fields a few km from my place. The Oshawa petting zoo lets them run free so they wander.

... So what does peacock taste like....

Tastes a little bit like bald eagle.

There are plenty of turkeys in and around the Ganaraska. The Ganaraska Forest covers a lot of territory and you'd need to do some scouting to see if there are turkeys in the areas that are open to hunting. You also need a permit to hunt (or do anything else) in the Ganaraska Forest.

I found it tasted more like dodo ;)

If you are set on Ganaraska then go to Ganaraska. If not there are a few farmers in the Blackstock/Enniskillen area who may let you use their land if you ask permission (case of beer can help to have the privilege the next year). Just be respectful and clean up anything you bring in afterwards.

We're in Enniskillen, but I usually hunt a couple of properties around Mosport. I would greatly appreciate being pointed towards farms that will accept hunters :). I'm always looking for new places to run my coonhounds as well.

Cheers,
DL

That's good to know. Thank you. Not particularly set on Ganaraska, it was just a spot somebody mentioned to me, so I thought I'd ask on here, not being familiar with that area. But I will certainly stop around the area to see some folks. Bein' a grey-haired ol' lady does help, I find.....:)

I have hunted Ganaraska for turkeys, grouse and deer. Have seen plenty of all three and really enjoyed hunting there. It's also outstanding for dirtbiking. Keep this in mind when you plan your hunt, especially on a weekend. It's a great place to watch the sun come up in the spring.
