Well I tried to load up my first rounds last night and discovered the IMR 4198 I picked up doesn't feed at all in my Hornady case activated powder drop. The powder drop is binding up on the long powder extrusions. It binds so hard that I actually squished a case mouth.

So is this a fixable issue? I switched to some IMR 4320 and loaded up some rounds. Only minor stickiness with the much shorter extrusions.

IMR 4198 is a pretty long grained extruded powder. I don't know of any way to fix it to feed reliably through your powder drop. Even if you could get it to actuate each time, I wouldn't trust the results. There are some short cut extruded powders out there and I have tried them and I still don't rust them enough to use them in a progressive press. For progressive presses I have completely switched over to ball powders and cluldn't be happier. Very consistant powder drops that I don't worry about any more. Not enough difference in accuracy that it bothers me. If I am after ultimate accuracy I drop and weigh each charge and load on a single stage press and when I do that I use my fave extruded powder which just happens to be........

those powder drops only work well with small flake/ball powders

for example, mine will not meter well with unique at all

Well for what it's worth it seems to meter fine in my lee stand alone powder measure. But like others have said I wouldn't trust it with a progressive press.

I was using for my 509 mag so it was a fairly big charge which I think helped.

My Lee also does really well with IMR 4198. It hates ball powders, but it does better with extruded than my other measures.
For $30, it might be worth the experiment. I use a good bit of 4198 and it all goes through the Lee.

The only powder (of the 10+ I've tried) w296/h110 are the worst with the lee. It spills unless you tighten it up so much you can barely move the arm.
