Henry H001 safety??

Hey guys,

I received my new Henry H001 lever yesterday. In the manual it describes how to use the "half #### safety".... For the life of me I cannot get it to engage.

I tried, Uncocked, to pull the hammer back a bit as the manual says (should be 1/16th to 1/8th of am inch according to manual) until "apparently" it "Clicks"... no dice! I also tried, from Cocked position to let the hammer off slowly by pulling the trigger then releasing before the hammer closes completely. It should stop and "lock".... Also doesnt work. Am I missing something???


PS... Such a SWEET rifle! Super smooth action, and really nice dark wood! Definitely recommend!
 
I just got my Henry this week as well. You're not pulling on the trigger are you? With the gun uncocked, finger off the trigger, just pull the hammer back a little until it clicks. Mine worked fine. If you have problems, I would be getting in touch with the seller.
 
The seller was Cabelas lol

And no finger on the trigger, it just hasn't worked for me at all. I mean it's not a huge deal, I feel confident with just puting the hammer up if it's loaded. I would rather do that than send it in and be without it for weeks that's for sure.
Maybe after I strip it and give it a good clean...? Who knows.

Take it back...new guns need to work period
 
When you look down at the hammer do you see only grooves, or flat metal on the hammer between the grooves and the receiver. If you see flat metal it's in half ####. Try putting an empty casing or snap cap in and releasing the hammer from full #### with the trigger. Pull the hammer back from there, it doesn't go back far. When I got mine it took me a bit to figure it out because the look of the hammer is so similar in half #### as it is when it is down. Not like a single action revolver at all.

You will love the rifle, it's a tack driver.
 
It works fine on mine. What you might not realize is that when it's in half ####, it looks like the hammer is down. Let the hammer fall completely by pulling the trigger as you lower it. Then, you should be able to lift up on it just a TINY bit and it will be in half ####.

It's really very simple once you see what half #### looks like. Cabela's has a 30 day exchange window on defective firearms so you can return it if you need to but I have a feeling it's probably user error...

These are quality rifles and it would be a shame to
send it back if its just user error. Mine
was tricky the first day but I just needed
to get used to it, now no problems at all.
 
Hey thanks, does anyone else's Henry NOT like holow point ammo? My keep ramming into te top of te chamber lol

Using round nose no problems tho.
 
I have had a couple of rounds jam into the top if I wasn't operating the lever with the correct amount of force. It's mean to be operated vigorously. Again, operator error.
 
Mine eats everything too, the only feed issues I had was when it was new and I was cycling it too slowly, trying to watch the feed mechanism through the ejection port. Work her hard, she won't let you down.

Why don't your just tell me I'm an idiot already? Yes the safety was my error, never denied it. But trust me te harder i cycle it the harder it jams and mangles the bullet... I've done a lot of research and I already knew to cycle vigorously...

Just in case you didn't realize cycling it firmly is most important on the downward stroke making sure that it goes all the way to the end of the travel...sometimes this is where people short stroke it a bit.

The henrys are pretty smooth and shouldn't need much force but you need to complete the stroke completely before closing the action.

First time I handled a henry I thought it was missing the half #### as well.... I finally slowly dropped the hammer on an empty chamber with my finger on the trigger and saw what was happening.
 
Just curious, but how does the safety work on the Henry? On my Ithaca 72 (which I understand is a precursor to the Henry), you pull the hammer back the 1/8 or so until it clicks, then you push forward on the trigger which then locks the trigger. If you don't push the trigger forward, you can still pull it, and the hammer will actually fall, albeit from lesser distance than a fully cocked.

Glad your safety is working. Just watched your video. I got mine from Cabela's too! They must have been the first ones in Canada to get them. No wonder it took a couple of days to process my order. They must have had a backlog like nuts! I have been checking EVERYONE since mid-December!!!
