Bolt action w/ Hi cap magazine

yea I'm just kinda stumped as to why there isnt more taking advantage of the no mag limits on bolt actions.

instead of someone designing a pistol and then using those mags in another gun why wouldnt someone design a bolt action then use those mags in other guns?

Probably because most people don't want a cumbersome magazine sticking out of their hunting rifle, adding weight, and getting in the way.

it wouldnt be any more cumbersome than a m14 5/20 mag, and I dont think it would have to be permanently attached to the rifle either just throw in a 5 rounder when you want to hunt with it

The AIA .308 "Enfield" magazines are 10 rounders made for a bolt gun that fit and function in M14s legally so there is nothing stopping bolt gun manufacturers from doing this even if they fit semi auto rifles except money / supply and demand. The Mossberg bolt action is limited due to the fact that it uses preexisting AR-15 mags just like the Remington 7615P. If the manufacturers made 30 round mags for them stamped for the respective firearms I suspect they would be legal and would be the next hot item over Beowulf mags up here.

While some people do choose to hunt with an M14, they are by far in the minority. Companies won't bother with marketing a product, unless the demand is high enough to make it profitable.

Whether hunting, or using my bolt action hunting rifles at the range, I don't want a bulky magazine adding weight,or getting in the way. Besides, I generally fire at most five rounds before letting the barrel cool, so a larger magazine would offer no advantage at all. In my case,as with many other people, a larger magazine would actually be a disadvantage.

I guess really the whole deal is that they cant be designed or advertised to work with semi autos

they might have to do more than just stamp them for a existing gun though I'm not sure, Perhaps the gun would have to be designed around the mag?

the thing is wouldnt it have to be designed to be used solely in a bolt action so mag limits didnt apply? then if it just so happens to fit in other rifles

I think the fact that they don't exist speaks to the demand or perhaps there's a new business opportunity here for you.

But the thing is, they do exist. The Australian new production Lee Enfield style rifles in .308w have 10 round capacity centerfire magazines that fit and function in the M14. As they were designed and manufactured for the bolt action rifle they are legal for use in the M14 that they coincidentally fit. I think the real issue with no supply of such magazines as they are only at a premium here in Canada and only to a select "few" who actually know about the opportunity to use them in semi auto rifles. It's only our ridiculous gun laws here that allow such loopholes to exist. Our market is so small relative to the rest of the world that it's not cost effective to put them into production. I'm pretty sure Mossberg and Remington built their bolt action and pump action rifles around AR-15 magazines so they didn't need to build their own, while taking advantage of the plethora of high capacity magazines already out there. No need to produce their own dedicated magazines as they are not targeting our very small "loophole" market.

10 rounds is hardly high capacity. If guys want to use them I've got no issues but I'd say the demand just isn't there.

There are reproductions of the WW1 "trench magazine" available for the Gew 98. These are 20 or 25 round and could be modified to fit most 98 military actions like the K98k, VZ 24, etc.

10 rounds is available and if you practi e your mag changes you will be able to get your gun plenty hot!
Probably hoter then most people prefer....
