Inexpensive rifle

What would be your recommendation for a relatively fun inexpensive target rifle to buy?

The use of the words "inexpensive" and "target" in the same sentence preclude the Ruger 10/22... I have dozens of rimfire rifles in every action and have done dozens of builds... to get 10/22's to the place where I would consider them a "target" rifle, they are no longer "inexpensive." Your best bet would be a Savage FVT bolt action or a Zastava Z5 or for a little more a CZ 455 (453 if you can find one)... to give you a better recommendation more info is needed... do you have an action preference, what sort of "target" shooting, at what ranges, is it a multi-use gun??? etc???

Thats a very general term of whats not too expensive, and how accurate is accurate to you. To a lot of guys a $1500.00 target rifle is very inexpensive.

I'll mention CZ is a good option too, for a bolt action. They are about $500 new. The 452's are the older dicontinued model but can be found as NOS at many dealers. The 455's are the replacement model. The 455's have a switch out barrel that allows you to get 22 LR, 22 Magnum, and .17 HMR using the same bolt and action. The extra barrels are about $160. These are typically more accurate than an out of the box 10/22 and if you want to step up a notch later, Lidja makes match barrels for them, including the .17 HM2 which is getting quite popular now. Other than the threaded in permanent barrel on the 452's the only other significant differance is that it has 2 lugs on the bolt as opposed to the 455's 1 lug. Not a big deal, they shoot about the same. Lots of variations on the models but the American is most popular. I have a 455 Thumb Hole Varmint version with a big honking Mueller 8X32 scope on it and its killer accurate, 3/8" groups with mid grade ammo at 50 yrds.

Didn't the OP ask for inexpensive options? sorry but $500 is not what most would call inexpensive...

I feel like if you are looking to be serious about shooting targets, then going with cheap isn't going to get you any where, if you are looking to plink away than pretty much any cheap .22 will do, regardless of action.

if your focus is to hit targets seriously, and your tool to do so is a $200.00 rifle than you won't be satisfied. I don't own a single .22 worth over $300.00 and i have fun all day setting up different items to shoot with family and friends. they are not used as target rifles but they get the job done.
