I've done some shooting matches in the US before moving to Canada (mostly ZSA http://zombieshootersassociation.com and a little IDPA). In the US, the targets always have a "head". In the pictures of shooting matches I've seen here, the targets are elongated octagons. Are the "head" targets disallowed in Canada, or at least seen to be politically incorrect or in bad taste?

Thanks for any insight.

IPSC was trying to be more politically correct and banned the ones with a head, they use them in the states because they have a totally different rule book there

IDPA still has a head though

Police Pistol Combat (PPC) matches use the NRA B-27 target, which is a human silhouette, complete with head. This is the Canadian Police Combat Association (CPCA) approved target. I've heard of some ranges prohibiting the use of human silhouette targets, but if they offer CPCA approved matches, then the B-27 should be used.

It hasn't been called a "head" in many years. It was called the "upper panel" trying to be a little lower key. What once was called an "assault course" became a "field course"

All in the name of not sounding scary...

The "head" of the IPSC 'Item' target was referred to the 'B' zone.

The police sil target has gone from black to space alien green, for the same PC reasons as the IPSC target change.

Utter BS! At the same time, ranges are littered with the 'Zombie' genre of targets.

IPSC targets look like turtle shells :) I think sheeple are getting silly about what targets look like! I've used old magazines and ripped out pages before for targets and I could care less if it's a mustard bottle, a car or a head as long as it has an obvious area to hit. Shooting at pictures of mustard bottles hasn't made me want to eat more burgers and head targets don't make me want to shoot at people.

still called a head in IDPA, lots of stage descriptions specify "engage targets with 1 shot to the head" or something

It's either practical, and representative of real scenarios (in which case, these turtle targets are stupid), or not (and target placements/stage setup do not need to reflect practical scenarios).

One or the other. Not both, Vince Pinto.
