I don't have my CORE yet, and I've never shot an animal before, and everybody in my family who hunts are no longer with us, so I was thinking I'd start off small.
I know you're allowed to kill certain animals, like the eastern grey squirrel, without any sort of permit. I was wondering if there were certain animals you could hunt with firearms without any hunting license?

Yeah okay, I guess I'll just wait until after the CORE. You're right, Ardent, I'll appreciate the knowledge. I think I was the only one in my PAL course who actually enjoyed it lol

Thanks to you all

Once you get your CORE be sure to come back and see about getting a mentor. There is no better way to put all that new knowledge to work than to have the help of an experienced person. The weekend of classses is just the beggining of a lifetime of learning...... :)

Maybe the MRN doesn't consider 10 squirrels per capita(made up number) to be a healthy sustainable population or possibly there's a fear if squirrels were on the small game list yahoos would be shooting them at every backyard bird feeder, off of every power line and in every neighborhood park in the province.

Friggin lucky guys out there. We're over run with grey squirrels and for some reason they're protected or at least there's no season for them.

I wouldn't be too excited about squirrel, but Grizzly, Cougar, Wood Bison, Elk, Mule Deer, giant Moose, Caribou, plentiful big Black Bear, the mountain Goats, Sheep, plentiful and large Wolves, etc are excitement inducing. If you like to hunt, West is for you.

Plus, your job will even pay more and friendlier CFOs- pack your bags! :)

We do have our fair share of huntable species but we also have an ass backward CFO and ridiculous provincial police force/CFOs personal minions.

CFO = "???? Firearms Officer"? - "Conservation ???? Officer"?

You guys sure hate them squirrels, eh? I got about 40 traversing my 35x35 back yard every day (or the same two doing 20 laps). If only I weren't in the city...

I am thinking about doing my core as well, no one in my family hunts, but I have a few friends into it. I live in chilliwack so if you are looking for a hunting buddy after you do core you can send me a pm. I think I will be doing mine next month or so

CFO=Chief Firearms Officer. Personally don't hate squirrels and kind of enjoy the cute little bugger that scratches on the the patio door and begs for hand outs. She'll come right in and eat from my hand. Still wouldn't mind being able to go out and tag a few with the 22 every once in a while though but not in my back yard because that would be like shooting fish in a barrel.
