What would you pay for a Winny 61

Just got a call about a Winchester Model 61 pump and an 1890. The 1890 is out of the question: the stock is held together with screws.
The Model 61 is suppose to be in fairly nice shape. The guy is going to send pics and serial number and he is also going to check the bore with a scope.
He said the stock would`nt need much if any to refinish. I have appointments this morning, but he should have me pics by noon. I know the 61 is more collectable then the 62 and it is also "hammerless"!!!
 
A fair price hurts both parties equally. I am of the desportizing school for military surplus guns. Regardless of which type of firearm you have, if something simple is broken, the internet is a great way of finding parts and advice. Even if you spend more money than "it is worth", you might take the long view that we are just temporary keepers of these things. Money invested to prevent neglect is always well spent.

I just did an orphan up and finished her yesterday.
Most would of parted her out.
Not a raving beauty, but one you could definitely take home to mom.
I think I might make two or three bucks an hour on it.
BUT, if a young shooter ends up with it as their first, who am I to argue?
They all can't be tent pegs.
 
I think I might have gone a little over board earlier with the other topic. I had just got off the phone with another older gent about his rifle. I should have left the house and went for a breather instead of ranting on here. Its just...at times when you look for quite awhile and finally get a response or two and it ends up they are just looking to see what thiers is worth....it bites. Oh well, I found a Winchester 61 that an older fellow has. He has quite the collection and a gunsmith to boot. He is the same guy I bought my Marlin 39A from!!! Small world. I`ll post pics this week-end when I get back from my trip.

The world of 39A's and the amount they come up for sale is pretty scarce.
There was one listed in the EE just a few breathes ago and it sure didn't
take long to sell.
And the price was fairly steep.
Not to say it wasn't worth it, but if you paid less than half of what this
one just sold for, hence Woodeneye's retort.
If you don't get this, I pence some math lessons are in the making.
I won't explain what I just typed.

I PM'd you and told Respect the "old coots" as you put it that your trying to buy guns from. I also said your ranting and raving about it makes you look like a tool. Your going to be old some day.

I stand by what I wrote and I could post your PM reply which is just as stupid as your original post.

lol yeah, I know that the persistent itch won`t likely be gone for too too long. I think before I get anymore, I need to thin some out. I have one guy stopping by this week-end for one, then I have 4 more that need to find their own room elsewhere.

The search has been so long...what's it been? 2 whole weeks? Imagine not finding a 100+ year old rifle in a a condition that pleases, at a price that is fair after 2 whole weeks!

Patience is a virtue, but respect for our elders should be a given.

It is refreshing to read about .22's other than 10/22's though!
 
Finally got pics today of the collection. Not sure if I`m going to pull the pin. He took 3 out of his collection: Winchester 61, Browning trombone, Remington 121. Both the Browning and Remington he wants $700/pc, the Winchester he wants $600. I already bought his 1958 Marlin Golden 39A about 3 weeks ago for $600. It is in way nicer shape then his win 61. It is going to need a stock finish, etc.
He is a man with a firm price...I already know that. I do have to give him credit though, he does know what it takes for them to leave his hands!
The Win 61 will be in my gun cabinet tomorrow night right beside its old friend Marlin.
