The Canadian National Championships of the shooting sports - Cowboy, Air Rifle, Skeet, Service Rifle, IDPA, 3 gun, Trap, Sporting Clays, Wild Bunch, Precision Rifle, Steel Challenge, PPC, etc. (sorry if I missed one) - what is the turnout at these competitions?

I'll start it off - I was just informed that this year's IPSC Canada Nationals in the little town of little Dalhousie, NB has registration of over 320 competitors...:D
(Yes, I'm bragging because I'm so proud of the great job the guys in Dalhousie are doing!)

I'm just curious how the turnout is with the other gun games.

AND PLEASE - DON'T BASH OTHER PEOPLE'S SPORTS - friendly rivalry is good; and all shooting is good shooting.

Got excited for a second.
Thought you were announcing a decathalon style championships where you compete in all of the disciplines and an overall winner was chosen.

If that happens, I'm in!
Otherwise I have nothing constructive to add :(

I do not believe there is a Canadian national for idpa. The idea has been kicked around though

I'm virtually certain there isn't one for 3 gun in canada

There would have to be standardization on a 3Gun ruleset and some kind of sanctioning body to have any kind of national championship for 3Gun. Almost all of the matches are outlaw. Now that some clubs are affiliating with 3Gun Nation, maybe things are heading in a direction where a national championship might some day happen.

I made the same comment a month ago, and had my hat handed to me because there were only #### of spots....

So get your application in earlier, maybe???

We are doing the SASS Canadian Championship in Kamloops this year and are planning on 130-125 competitors. Because of the time to reset each stage, pick brass, and the time it takes to load and stage firearms a 10 bay range can only handle about 150 competitors unless you make it a lost brass match.

I don't see why Steel challenge isnt more popular.

you guys get a good amount in alberta and its only year 2 for us here in bc so I'm betting it picks up. I love it so I dont understand it either, if you want to know how much pure speed you have there isnt a better way

We are having "World English Sporting Clays Championship' in Galt August long weekend. We are expecting 300 competitors roughly 100 canadians, 100 americans and 100 people from across the water

Here's a few guesses:

> Expensive investment in targets
> Arbitrary CFO rules (shrouding)
> Space

We do run a Steel Challenge nearby, I love the sport & match format. IF we had one more shooting bay we could run all the official stages. As it is we have to compromise to fit the range template.

Targets aren't that much if you just buy the scholastic set. set up 4 at a time, and then set up the next 4

Part of the reason SC hadn't taken off up here is the stupid rules that we operate under. Thankfully that's now a thing of the past at least in BC, with 7yd steel targets being allowed.

back to Sean's original question, I think the PPC nationals will see around 200 competitors this fall. Not my bag, but still very popular.

Shrouding is not a Canadian law, it's a home grown rule(or whatever) and not used in most provinces and territory's(clubs) because it's ######x stupid.

Strange how the PPC Nationals can expect to see around 200 competitors on the extreme left coast, yet when they are held in the pretty much dead centre of the country, I think it was less than 50 competitors.
