So I am patiently awaiting the arrival of my RPAL and while I wait I'm doing a little research to figure what I think I would like to buy and I can't believe how many 1911s are out there! I know the patents were generously sold off by Mr. Browning and thus anyone can produce them, but why are they so popular?

Much like the Energizer Bunny, they just keep on going and going and................................................!
++ big KISS factor
If it aint broke, dont f**k with it.

Once you get your RPAL, head down to the local gunshop and ask to hold a 1911 worth at least a grand. That'll help with the understanding. I've been trying to save up for one but I'm a pretty compulsive gun buyer. Easily distracted by shiny objects and low low prices.

Everybody makes em becouse their flagship gun cant hold up the company unlike the mighty beretta 92!
But seriously everybody makes them becouse even though there so many out people will still buy them, people will buy a springfeild becouse they like their xdm theyll buy a ruger since the name had been around forever. Then if they want bling they buy the kimbers, nighthawks ect.
Im not a 1911 guy but I do own a few but people buy them becouse there is something for everybody high budget vs low budget, tactical vs target, old school vs new school,9mm vs 45 vs .22 vs 40 ect
There really is something for everybody.

A 1911 carried in condition one is probably one of the safest and best ways to defend yourself from the holster. It's hard to beat.

while i really like my 1911's they are not the gun i would wanna carry into a fight.
fun to shoot, fun to play lego with and add on and change out stuff.
but we are talking 102 year old technology here.

ill take my S&W M&P 45 any day and twice on sunday over any of my 4 1911's if given the choice and if my life depended on it.

thats the same as saying that your rather get into a fight with a Lee Enfield rather then a AR.

dont get me wrong, love my 1911's.
but i wouldnt wanna bet my life on their reliability!

Your first 1911 is like a barbie doll; you get one, you dress it up in different ways, you treasure it, and now you get to go play with the other folks that have 'em.

Once you add a few more to the collection, pretty soon opening the safe starts to look like a row of pretty ladies in a burlesque show. Vive la difference!

Because there fun!! I love shooting mine. Nice and slim and they point so naturally. And as mentioned before when you shoot a high-end one its like no other. So damn accurate!!! And its not just the gun that is accurate,,,a nice 1911 help's YOU be accurate. Its so easy to get the most out of the gun. Some platforms don't work with some people. A 1911 is one of those platforms that works with almost everyone. Its a timeless design.

Ya maybe in a perfect world bud. I watch a 1911 jam or FTE/FTF minimum once a month during local IPSC club nights. I love 1911's, but it sure wouldn't be my first choice if it was a life or death situation. Don't want to rain on the 1911 parade but lets call a spade a spade.
