Paying less money for a P226 with 2 calibers?

I am looking for a P226 + .22LR conversion kit to save some shooting cost.

This is the price listed on the www.sigsauer.com

P226 9mm $993

P226 9mm $993 + .22LR conversion $285 = $1278 total

P226 .22LR $626 + 9mm conversion $356 = $982 total

Just curious. I can pay less money for a P226 with 2 calibers than a P226. Anybody have tried this combination?
 
Have you factored in importation and other associated costs of bringing it to the Canadian Market?

Last I checked, it generally seems to work out more or less equivalent.
 
I did just this, bought the .22r Sig 226 and the 9mm conversion kit - total cost was the same as a 226 in 9mm ... pretty much a no brainer.

I spoke with a Sig rep and was told that the frames are Identical for both the .22 and full caliber models.
 
I can get P226 .22LR from cabelas for $549, and 9mm conversion from volverine for $355. So that is total $904. Sounds like too good to be true. I get a 9mm P226 and a free .22 kit. As mentioned by AROD89, the frames are Identical for both the .22 and full caliber models.
 
Those aren't exactly Canadian prices, but close, and you're absolutely right. (The Arma-Coat deal is great if you're looking.)

No you can't. You can back-order one, though. And be in line with hundreds of other people who have placed the same back-order at this un-believable price in the past year.

Right, if you can find them new in Canada you'd probably be spending 700-750 all in for a classic 22. And, the 9mm kit new, maybe 400-425.

On top of this very valid point you'd also be paying 2x shipping, and Cabelas can be less than fair on their shipping costs to be polite. Wait time and shipping fees brings this in line with the Arma Coat deal going on right now, and Arma Coat product is in stock.

Been waiting months on that one. Been back orderable forever.
 
Seems strange to me that the price difference between the .22 classic and 9mm version is so great. Just doesn't make sense to me if they are supposed to be the exact same frame but have a 400$ difference in price. Something has to be sacrificed somewhere to get that kind of a price drop. I can understand the slide for the 22 being of lesser quality but 400$ worth? Kind of throws up a red flag to me. Hence why I am going with the 9mm + .22 conversion.

Thats unpossible!! there are never good deals in the EE, just ask the guys with zero trader ratings!! Not you PorkNBeans, more of a statement about all the EE ##### threads lately! You should kick yourself, thats a good deal! You sure it wasn't a mosquito?

Nope, a real deal p226 .22lr and only an hour away so I could've had a look even. I knew it wouldn't last long. Someone got themself a nice deal...on an EE none the less. Shocking!

Exactly the same frame, sorry to ruin it for you.

The slide for the 22 is not "lesser quality", it is aluminum. It has to be much lighter than the steel slide on the centerfires in order for the recoil of the 22LR to cycle it. Aluminum is cheaper material, and easier to machine, so it costs less to produce. The 22 barrel is probably cheaper to produce as well, but I could be wrong on that account.

Moreover, retail pricing doesn't have as much to do with cost of production as it does with market value. How much is Joe Shooter going to pay for a 22 pistol? The 226 Classic 22 is directly competing with other 22 pistols, very few of which cost more than $500. The centerfire Sigs cost $900+ because Sig has no problem all that they can produce at that pricepoint. Heck, I'd bet that Sig might even use the Classic 22 line as a loss leader, getting more people interested in their product.

In all honesty, it is literally a waste of money by going 9mm + 22LR instead of 22LR + 9mm.
 
Hmm interesting. By 'lesser quality' I meant cheaper, lighter metal.

Oh well I'm still happy with the deal I'm getting with the 9mm+22lr, especially getting the SRT installed included.
