**OFFICAL*** The Type 97NSR is Non restricted!!!

Actually yes. Under the criminal code it is a weapon no matter what.

Shawn

That may be what the law states. The people who wrote the law don't care if it's ever used as a WEAPON - they just call it that.

A baseball bat isn't designed as a weapon but it can be used as such (similar discussion for kitchen knives and so on). If we in the "firearms users community" go along with the antis and hoplophobes and call our firearms "weapons" we aid in the negative image surrounding firearms. I, for one, have never used a firearm as a weapon. I've shot lots and lots of holes in lots and lots of paper, but that's not using the firearm as a weapon. I've shot (not enough) deer and lots of gophers, rabbits (NZ), and possums (NZ), but this is "pest control" not "weapon use" - I'm NOT SHOOTING PEOPLE - which would make it a weapons use.

If the firearms owning-using community wants to slow down the civilian disarmament that seems to be part of the agenda of the people who wanna make the laws in our country (and in the UN), we need to be a little mindful of our Ps and Qs and call our recreational equipment firearms - instead of weapons - unless our goal is to use them as weapons - in which case we're either defending our lives (legitimate use) or the lives of others (also legitimate - whether legal or not). As soon as we start turning our toys into weapons, the antis get another leg up in their win. They'll roll out the "but you don't need that firearm" BS. You don't need skis, either, but will you look at the point on that ski pole?
Wow - how's that for some run-on sentences...

Was thinking that myself. Will be trying that myself as a left sided control on the mag release may greatly improve the ergonomics.

Agreed. Looks awkward now, but would definitely be better with an ambi release. If an AR one doesn't fit, I'm sure someone will make one.

I'm hoping for a railed handguard as well. Would be nice to cowitness a red dot.

Ben

Given it is a AR mag system it should work. The button on the right side looks round instead of oval. Only issue I can see with a standard AR ambi release not neing drop in is dependant on whether that round button uses the same thread pattern as the oval style button on ARs. Wouldn't be hard to use a ambi AR set up and fabricate a new button with proper thread if need be.

I'm sure the modification threads will be quick to pop up once the gun hits consumers. I know of one blogger that will be reviewing it shortly after delivery.

The negative posters on this thread really need to give their head a shake. This is a celebratory announcement thread by NS to let us know that the stars have aligned and we have a non-restricted Bullpup available for a grand. If you are upset about the placement of the safety, ergonomics, prettiness, etc, save your comments for someone who gives a $h!t and quit clogging up this thread!

Rant over. Thanks NS!!

Sadly this is becoming the typical level of discourse on this site... You realize this is a Discussion board right? I said in my original post I'm glad these are approved, (I may even buy one to try) but there is nothing wrong with a little debate about some obvious deficiencies.

The point is that there may be a way to mitigate the issues, such as with a norgon type ambi release, or the importer may actually bring our concerns to the manufacturer and release an improved version down the road, this has happened with other guns in the Canadian market such as the tavor.

The point is if you are unable to have a rational discussion, perhaps you'd be better served by just sticking to reading advertising on dealer web pages and leave this forum to grown ups.

The question about the safety is a completely legitimate concern. I was in the first wait list and made the first round for the most recent wait list. I also have a concern about the safety. The original position does suck. I recalled reading Chinese military doctorine avoided using it themselves. Normally this would be a you get what you get issue. However there have been pictures for a while now of a reworked safety at the pistol grip for a revised version. As the ones for the Canadian market are only now being made it's legit to ask if we will get that version. I for one will be celebrating if we do.

I was also noting the mag release on the left looks AR and thinking Norgon ambi release would be a good addition. Glad to see Im not the only one thinking this.

Man, if that picture is accurate, the Chinese have really refined their finish/machining techniques.

That thing looks good to go!!

Clobbersaurus and a few others who reviewed the original T97 rifles also thought the fit and finish was very good.

Not worried about the safety. Plenty of guns don't even have them to begin with. Can't wait for it to show to start modding the crap out of it and see what works with what.

Ya, except that I don't think that he was really saying, "no discussion allowed". He was saying that as this is a "hurray, it's finally here!" announcement to those who want this gun/have preordered, no one really wants to read cheap shots based on what is readily apparent. If you consider the obvious: we are aware of the aspects of the gun that are less than perfect (the selector issue, the "ugliness", etc. are well known), then chiming in with gratuitous slagging hardly constitutes discussion. Offering something constructive (eg/ the above discussion on an ambi mag release) is fair comment. If it isnt constructive, then don't complain about being told to STFU. I say that's fair...

I assume those that are worried about the safety are part of the "action shooting" community.
I was taught at an early age not to trust a safety, I don't even use one, ever. Muzzle control. Trigger control.
