but its time to move on....i have been looking at a bunch of other newer trucks...but they all look like they would not compare to the ole war horse...
im open to all ideas and models...
im looking for something that will motor me along in the city, then travel hauling a trailer for a 5000 km moose hunt to get me through the bogs and washed out logging roads...

Looks like a GM product, Suburban or Blazer type, hard to tell from the picture. Personally I use a Cummins diesel with a Dodge wrapped around it. Works well for me, but it may not be your cup of tea.
Just curious, what area do you moose hunt in that you travel 5000 k (3100 miles) from Toronto? You could be in Newfoundland with that mileage.

toronto to fort Francis
..round trip plus all the running around ...more like 6000 km

I can't beleive I'm the first to say this, the best offroad SUV would be a jeep. My family has tons of them and if I didn't need a pickup for hauling I'd get one. The amount of off road accessories available for them is unreal, and they are still great run around vehicles for the city.

I'll second that, and if you get the right drivetrain, towing will match a quarter ton or even half ton pickup. Definitely do your research beforehand.

If you like what you have, why not try and find the same with low kilometers
on it?
There must be a few around some old seniors have tucked away in a garage?

whats your thought on a low milage?keep in mind the truck i have is a 1995 with 320 klicks on on it...if the body was not so bad on mine i would just do the tranny on it...
guess i should have kept up the yearly oil spays on it....

Those S10/S15's were hit and miss. I owned a '94 and it was kind of meh.

I think that may of been the only suv I have ever pi$$ed on! Lol. Get a hummer! Oops, wrong forum for that. I could see you in a jeep type vehicle.

I rocked a 92 pathfinder for 400k and 10 years. i looked for another one until i got desperate. My old timer neighbour had a 98 chevy 1500 4x4 extended cab V6. was not what i was looking for being i was an SUV guy aswell. But it only had 130k on it ..." this was last year " and a canopy. He had it since new and dumped it on me for $3500. I have to say its the best vehicle ive ever had " for the money ".

I put overload springs in it from the wrecker for $200. It cross ditches far better than i thought it would. Being a V6 it not to bad on fuel ..." Same engine your running in the blazer " w/ the canopy its made it very good in the snow " Toyo MT55's help "

IF you can find a half tonne chev with the V6 and get a cheap canopy for it i would not over look the oportunity.

I had to read your question a couple times to come up with what I think you are after.
I am old enough to know waaaay yonder, 100,000 MILES was eons on an engine.
Oils have come a long long way since the karbintooter days.
If you have any form of a V-6 in this Blazer, you have treated it well as far as servicing goes.
Or you have shoeless ponies.
Them V-6's I gave 275,000 kilos and then toast.
Anything around 100,000 k's is low k's in this day and age. If it's been kept up even a tad more.
City driving takes it's toll.
Find someone who is on the outskirts of town. Minimum 20 k's to go where they're going.
An easy trick is to lift the driver's door when open off the hinges. If it's under a 100 k and the
hinges are loose, city driving.
Check the inside of the tailpipe. If it looks like the outside, good to go. If it looks like a well used
chimney stack.....blackened with soot, she's a burner.
A simple note, 80,000 and 160,000 k's are time to spend moohlah.
Especially the latter. Brakes, struts, exhaust, front and rear brakes, battery,
e-brake cables, fuel pump and such.

im thinking thats the route i will take....from one ole fart to another
