Hey cgn,

So I've been taking my hundred year old winchester 94 hunting for spring bear this season and figured it's time to get it a sling. The problem is, I'm having trouble finding a system with good reviews. Midway usa has a few with mixed reviews, but I'd like to hear from everyone what their own experience is.

cheers!

rifle or SRC?

I have the same problem. I refuse to drill, tap or mount anything that will take away from the original, but always hope I can find 'some' thing to adapt getting a sling on for those long days hiking up in the mountains where I sometimes need both hands.

After 11 years....still looking for something that I would be happy with.

You could always try those modern HK-style 2 pt slings that hang the rifle in front of you similar to an AR-15. For the rear, you can use the traditional stud with a swivel or use a butt stock adaptor that hangs the rifle from the heel. Up front you can use on of those velcro attachment points that wraps over the barrel and forend. That way you can remove it easily and it doesn't alter the rifle.

I think if you get it in a OD green of foilage colour, it'll blend well with the rifle.

For my Rossi M92, very similar to your Win 94, I made a little invention. I went to a fabric store and bought some 1" nylon webbing, and some double slot keeper buckles.
On the buttstock, make a loop, to fit tightly around the butt bout 4" from the buttplate. Sew the loop securely at exactly this measurement. Pass the loop over the muzzle, down the rifle and snug it to the butt.

Using a double slot keeper, attach the long piece at right angles. Cover the sewn joint with the loop and buckle used to attach the long piece.

Pass the long end of the strap under the loop on the side opposite the "T".

Take the loose end up to the magazine tube. The webbing fits between barrel and magazine tube no problem - pass through the double slot buckle and back on itself and it holds securely and may be slid to a comfort point.

The whole rig works as well as swivels, leaves no marks and is also easily removed.
And it's Cheeep!
You're welcome!

I bought a similar sling for my blr for under 25$. They work well and keep the rifle "stock" which many know, will increase the resale value on a collector rifle.

I made my own front barrel band sling loop, but you can buy ones that slide onto the magazine

Had a guy in calgary custom make me a leather butt protector (Im a lefty) and a sling for a knife I made:
