Hi guys, I just bought my son a Ruger 10/22 Takedown, and he'd like to try a peep sight on it and see how he shoots with it,
instead of going straight to a scope...so I'm looking at three of them. The Williams peep sight mounts on the back of the receiver,
and comes with a higher front fibre optic sight. The Tech Sight TSR 100/200 looks more like an M-1 set-up, the peep mounts on
the receiver and has wings to protect the aperture sight, and comes with a front pin sight that's also protected by two wings on
the side. It looks more robust than the Williams. The third option is the Skinner peep sight which mounts on the barrel in place
of the rear sight, and then a plate comes back to the back edge of the barrel where the aperture is mounted. They say that their
peep sight never loses zero because it's mounted on the barrel of the Takedown, and you can use the factory front sight.
Is that valid? The receiver of the Takedown is tapped for mounting a scope, and I haven't heard anything about scopes losing
zero from the barrel being removed and then put back on. I like the Skinner peep sight for it's use of the Ruger front sight and
that it leaves the receiver clean for a possible scope mount in future, you can see them at skinnersights.com, but I've heard that
peep sights work best when they're close to your eye, like the Tech Sight peep is. Any of you use one of these or have an opinion?
Thanks for the help!
