So I weasle a bit of time away from 'the man' today.....

I decide it's time to go and visit the range.

I head out at 10:00, It's a 15 min drive to the range. By the time I get all set up etc. its close to 11am.

I was going to test out every single type of factory fodder I have on hand (plus some handloads) in a newly built upper I recently completed.

106 rnds in I have a farily serious failure of a major componant...... The gun is locked up. SOLID..... I can get the BCG to move about 1/8" back but thats it. I am able to get the upper off the lower.

One thing leads to another, it involved hanging from a rafter in the shed at the range from my upper (off the CH).......




Ah heck a picture is worth a thousand words.....











The best part? I was shooting over a crony........

The piece of brass that was stuck in the chamber (I guess that is a FTE) looks great, primer shows no signs of pressure. 55 gr FMJ factory ammo.





In any case I swapped out the BCG for my "back-up" and proceeded to fire off the rounds I wanted to...... 10 types of ammo, 4 - 10 shot groups over the crony..... Did I mention that I am gathering data?..... All told I fired 425 rnds today!

All's well that ends well, I beat the little lady home from work, so as far as she knows I was at work all day :D

Oh and the bolt that piled up was brand spanking new before today. It has exactley 106 rounds on it.

I recently recieved it from a Canadian supplier. It was supposed to be mil-spec & MPI....... I ain't going to say horse pucky, but I dunno.... I'm still waiting for a call back from the retailer to see about warrenty......

Its funny how CGN is the only firearm website that is too afraid to name the brand of ARs that have such failures, but it's safe to assume what brand it is.
 
Oh dear.... This could get interesting. I'm hoping this is a one off problem as I just ordered a phosphate coated BCG from a Canadian supplier/manufacturer that rececently started selling these. And I don't have a spare...

I have one of those too, and it's at 3K+ since I fixed a bunch of stuff on it when it was new.....

No this FA BCG came from the other Canadian supplier..... I wasn't going to name names until I find out how there warranty is.....

Also, it didn't just shear a lug. A significant portion of the bolt body was also forcibly removed in the incident!

What ammo and barrel length are you running to get that velocity?
I was out at the range today and chrony'd AE Tactical 55gr at 2900 from my 20" Swiss classic green.
 
That thing looks pretty soiled after 106 rounds.

I'm curious of the rifle specs too, specifically, the buffer wight and recoil spring round count.

I guess we see how this plays out, I'm sure everyone with thinking "Ice?".
 
Oh man! You simply were not tactical enough with the rifle to clear the stoppage.

Nork red box. Of the 40 rnds I fired of this ammo the avg was 2998.7179 FPS. Total extreme spread was 159 FPS. SD was 45.466. Barrel was 14.5 chrome lined with a .556 chamber. I also have data for this ammo with an 18.5" barrel. I'm going to do a run with a 16", 7.5" and a 20" in the future......

The bolt did look pretty dirty, but the grease under the layer of carbon was still red....... It looks much better cleaned up!

Standard H buffer. The only used parts on this build were the; stripped upper receiver, H buffer, ejection port cover and barrel. All other small parts and springs were new and unfired......

I actually tried that first....... Didn't budge...... But I didn't go "full retard" either...... On the other hand I did hang 250 lbs of weight off the CH to pull out the bolt!

Warranty Exists to limit the responsibility of the MFG. When you buy a firearm and accept the warranty you legally accept the limits set forth by the MFG.
The gun industry tends to be a bit better about warranty than most other sectors.
