I was going through the Canadian archives and found some photos that may intrest some here.

K or G 43 I imagine... distance from the front of the trigger guard to the back of the mag looks about right.

That's literally TONS or K98k's and M43 helmets. With a little foresight (about 70 year's worth or so) someone could have been very wealthy. Sadly, I imagine most of that pile lives on as tram tracks in downtown Copenhagen...

haha yeah but I don't think it would be economically feasible. As Andrew pointed out, all that gear would literally be worth millions on today's market. Each matching K98 would be around the $2k mark and each helmet could be between $500-$5000 depending on the insignia/camo/config.

I say we hire Stephen Hawking to bend the space time continuum and get us back there!
 
The one "private" is in fact a WO2. He may have been busted to private later on had he tried to ship home a big stash of rifles and helmets to flog on CGN 65 yrs later.;) Note that he appears to be wearing puttees, rather than the usual gaiters.

Those would be M35, M40 and M42 helmets. It looks as though there might be some M18 helmets in there too as one of the inside liners looks to be the WWI/inter-war style.

I would imagine there are also some Fallschirmjäger helmets in there somewhere.
 
There looks to be some awesome camos in there, and a few wired lids, and maybe an oak leaf SS helmet cover?? $$$$$$$

Cleaning rods and hoods were commonly lost, broken, discarded for various reasons.
