20 MOA mount for savage!

So Im looking into getting a 20 moa base for my fvsr so I can free up some adjustment for a bit longer ranges.

My question is this, Will the base make things more difficult at closer ranges? I will still be using this rifle for 25 - 50 yards as well as working on 200 + yards?
I guess what i mean is if im zero'd for 25 yards, will i have to hold over more for a 100 yard shot as opposed to having a 0 MOA base?

Also Where could I find one of these in canada? either EGW, DIP or other? Im just unsure of the "duty charges" i may incur by dealing with brownells. Any one experience this before? What could the worst case duty charge be on say a $50 order?

If anyone might have an extra laying around feel free to PM me aswell.

Shouldn't be a problem, as long as your scope has enough internal adjustment to account for that much drop. You might also consider using Burris Signature Zee rings with offset inserts. I think they can get you 10 or 15 MOA just by putting the inserts in in the right positions. It's a cheaper way to start gaining MOA for your 22.

On orders under $100 from Brownells, I've never been hit with duty. Just make sure you select "priority" for the shipping option.
 
Im not too sure about the ring idea, just seems like the base might be a more secure set up, in my opinion anyways. I never thought about the adjustment needed, ill have to check on that for sure. Thanks for the heads up, and also for the brownells info :)

Burris makes them exactly for that purpose, for use on centerfire rifles. Guys use them on top of a 20MOA base to really stretch out there. I love them, as they don't mar the finish on your scope, either. But hey, suit yourself.

btw, I just got an FVSR back in my stable, and I couldn't be happier! Love that rig! Why did I ever sell the old one...? :/
 
Ken Farrell makes Savage bases, and ships to Canada. My current understanding is that scope *bases* and rings are not ITAR controlled.

Hm, well no guarantees but ill keep the rings as my second option.

They sure are awesome rifles! I call mine a BV SR now haha heres why.

Can't help you on the rail, but on your short range question when using the MOA rail I can comment. If you are zeroed at a given yardage, the hold-over at any other yardage will be identical regardless of your mounting system... what can be affected is the adjustment range of the scope... but with only 20 MOA on the rail, you will have no problem... but remember that optical aberations generally increase as you move away from the optical center..,. it is best to mount your scope in a fashion that centers it at your most common shooting distance... it would make little sense to use a 30 MOA rail to mount your scope and then spend 99% of your time shooting under 100 yards... the trade-off would be imbalanced.
 
on my fvsr i have a 20 moa base, 20 moa burris rings and as long as you have lots of adjustment in your scope you should be good. Mine has a vortex viper pst and i can go from 25 yard to 400 yards.
 
Wondering if you could get it shipped to the UPS store in Shelby, MT. Might be worth checking out if they can do that for you?
