I thought I would post about what is going on with my rifle right now so that others are aware of it (if it comes up for anyone else).

I purchased my CSA non restricted 5.56 VZ58 from a vendor on here early last year. Since that time I have put about 1500 rounds through it.

Recently I purchased a crate of Norc 5.56 for use in it. I had fired about 3 rounds when I had a split casing like below:

I tried a few more times and it happened every 2-3 rounds, so I called it a night (and was disappointed obviously).

That evening I posted on here in CanadaAmmo's section on another thread someone had posted with a similar issue. I exchanged emails with Chris as well, and he was EXCELLENT. He offered suggestions - one of which was a tight/sticky chamber. I cleaned my gun up to ensure the chamber was clean.

The next night I took it out again. I fired 5 rounds, and on the 6th, the rifle locked up and the case was bulged like so:

When I got the gun apart I noticed that the receiver lugs where the bolt lugs engage were deformed like so:

I shot CSA an email, and he got back to me over night. He has a suspicion of a defect from it being an early-ish rifle (improper heat treat). Yesterday I got a hold of North Sylva and was issued a return authorization to get the gun checked out.

Thus far everyone involved has been top notch. The email responses from CanAm and CSA have been wicked.

I will update as the situation progresses. Sucks though - my only 5.56 is down and my AR build is waiting on a couple parts. That whole crate of ammo is sitting there mocking me.

This is how issues with firearms SHOULD be dealt with by vendors and distributors!!!!!!

What kind of ammo did you use for the initial 1500 rounds??????

Ammo was mostly soft reloads with some factory .223 mixed in. I had zero pressure signs or case head separations in those sounds. Things were pretty smooth. I was having rounds nose dive periodically, but I figure that was something to do with the AR mag adapter.

Even smoked a few gophers with it this year that had made the mistake of coming up above the snow.

I have the exact same issue.
After almost 2000 rounds the casing separation inside the Chamber started to happen. 3 times...
managed to take the cases out of the chamber with a snake bore cleaner. But the the forth time it was jammed completely inside the Chamber.
I had also rounds that failed to shoot yet was striked by the striker but not hard enough. This happened right before the forth case separation. My riffle is cleaned each time completely after each use, that includes the Chamber.
clearly problem with the bolt carrier not aligned or the railing. I didn't have to deal directly with the folks in Toronto. the shop where I purchased the gun,They did the paper work and they are shipping my riffle to them on Monday.
I didn't inspect the receiver lugs cause I gave the gun away right after to the retail section in the range. I bought it from there...
Yes the warranty cover and the service after sale on those VZs are top notch. I broke my firing pin after 1000 rounds on the exact 58 and they sent me a new one in 5 days.
Plz keep us posted on here as I got the same problem as yours.

Will do. Gun is in the mail to North Sylva, so we will see what happens. Interesting that you had a firing pin failure as well - mine broke after the first 10 rounds fired.

Those type of issues have been happening since the very first type of cz858 or similar came to the canadian market. Czh2003, long, short barrels, cz858, long, short barrels, csa....
Looks like some of them gets to be lemons and some other are just great. Vast majority seems to be great.

Make some research on the forum, you will see that those issues have been around since the beginning.
 
Well, the gun is being replaced by North Sylva under warranty. None are in stock, so we play the waiting game. I'll update this when the rifle is received.

Seems like there is someone new in the warranty department. The new guy has no knowledge of the aforementioned rifle replacement, and now I'm waiting for someone to look at it again. Not looking so good anymore. I call weekly and get no real update.

Maybe the Canadian Sporting Rifle is the reliable rifle I am looking for? Not sure what I'll pick up next.

Worst service i have ever experienced in my life!

Took 9 months to resolve my issues, and in the end North Sylva didn't have anything to do with the resolution.

Update: Still nothing happening. North Sylva has a new company performing warranty work on CSA rifles, but the guy didn't think my rifle was one of the ones sent to them. Said Movie Armaments Group is the company.

He wasn't sure if it was test fired recently or where exactly it is. I had him add a comment into the RMA file to find my rifle so I don't get the same response next week.

We had a somewhat heated discussion about the operation of the VZ and how headspace could grow on this rifle. He was of the opinion that some of these guns were firing out of battery potentially due to a firing pin or bolt issue (not necessarily mine, but others he had seen).

Next week I'm going to ask him to get my gun in hand and physically look at the receiver lugs. Compare it to a functioning vz and tell me if the lugs look any different....

This is really frustrating. Every week I get a slightly different story with no real information. This is why I hate to rely on warranties. With an AR I could have replaced the parts two months ago and still be shooting it. I also hate talking to people that I think are full of ####.

ETA: this is so annoying that I am considering a flight to Ontario to sort it out (and maybe visit my in-laws).
 
Update:

I contacted CSA again after my frustrating conversation with North Sylva last week. CSA emailed North Sylva and gave me the name of the individual I should be speaking with.

I am pleased to say it sounds like my replacement rifle will be shipping this week, if it hasn't already.

They didn't have a 5.56 rifle in stock and I was interested in switching over to 7.62x39 anyways, so they hooked me up.

I'm excited, but I'm holding it in until the rifle is in my hands.

I have been going thru a very same kind of situation with North Sylva. Buddy who deals with warranties really seems to be smoking some real cheap herbs when I talked to him. Then I went in and he couldnt even figure out how to put a mag in the rifle, ughhh.

My problem is my CSA 7.62X39 7.5" shorty. It wont cycle anymore and the rounds will not feed into the chamber. They always bottom out. Plus mt charging handle has ALOT of play when is in battery position which none of my othe CSA/CZ's do.

Funny when I told NS my problems, they kept making BS excuses why it wouldnt run properly. Like "oh its the weather" or "the rifle design is terrible" or "try new mags" which I did and I have roughly 30 different cz mags and none of them would work.

I think they BS so they dont have to warranty new rifles out to customers who paid for a rifle to work and it doesnt.

My next step is contacting CSA like you did mspben!!!!


Considering I do business with them im hard to say that im impressed with the waybthey have handle m6 situation.

North Sylva also has a new repair center for CSA rifles, so hopefully that will help too.

The saga continues!

I have terrible VZ luck.

I received my replacement VZ from North Sylva more than a month ago. With vacation, and waiting for ammo and accessories, I didn't have a chance to shoot it until the first week of august.

During my week off, I put 1110 rounds through the rifle. It was awesome, but I had some issues.

At 291 rounds I broke a firing pin. No big deal, I had a spare.

At 1110 rounds, while I was cleaning the rifle, I noticed that the lower left hand lug was cracked. At this point, I have had enough.

The gun has been mailed to Movie Armaments, which is North Sylva's warranty place for CSA's.

On the plus side, they seem to be quick and not ignorant - they have had the gun for a week or two, but already have changed the parts out, set headspace, and just need to test the rifle. When I phoned this more they quickly found the status of my gun and updated me. Weird.

I'm pretty jaded by my whole VZ experience and will be selling the rifle when I get it back (after I test it obviously). It's Tavor time.

I will say this though - 7.62x39 is THE caliber for this rifle. Tons of fun!

Anyone want to buy a NR VZ with NEA handguard, folding stock, and ak saw pistol grip? I'll let it go for a good price...
