Issues with my CSA VZ 58 sporter

hey guys,

just bought a "new" used vz 58 in .223 18.5" barrel off the EE,

seller said it worked great, and that he shot 100 rounds through it right before shipping, pic looked good, so I was pretty confident and bought it.

long story short, I take the rifle out to the range today to test it, and get nothing but "clicks" when I pull the trigger, everything is engaging internally, but no strikes on the primers.

closer inspection revealed that the firing pin was sheered off, right at the base before the bevel, so this is something that would obviously have prevented successful functioning of the rifle.

So, my question to you guys who may be more familiar with the CSA vz 58:

1. is it feasable that the pin broke in transport? the gun was shipped with the bolt in place, in the styrofoam box that it normally comes with, so I dont see that being an issue, but I want to hear from you before I start mail fraud proceedings and the like.

2. where can I find replacements? the only place I know with cz parts is wolverine and they dont sell the pins on their own, only in a 100$ kit with lots of parts I dont need (which is also sold out :p) and I cant find any on brownells.

Sorry to hear that. As far as parts goes, I would check Wolverine Supplies. Considering you did that already not sure.

Maybe dry firing, but I'm reluctant to open that can of worms here... I'm just saying he may not be lying...

dry firing could break the pin? I know that normally dry firing is 100% fine, and used to check function, I was not aware that the cz was prone to dry fire damage.

or do you just mean dry firing in general, not dry firing specifically with cz 58's?

Dry firing should not brake the firing pin in anyway on the CSA. My buddy's firing pin broke after the very first shot of the day. He had used it previously with no problems. Supposedly the .223 firing pins arent up to par. Contact North Sylva and they can send you a replacement.

As for what the seller told you, I would be letting his trader rating reflect what has happened to your "new" rifle.

well, I will give him a chance to get back to me, but yeah really, I didnt hold much hope that a firing pin could spontaneously break.

I am really having a hard time with parts, everything I find is stateside and wont ship here, hopefully north sylva gets back to me as they are my last hope at this point since wolverine doesnt have any either.

Even if North Sylva doesnt have it in stock, they will get it for you. I called for my buddies broken pin (i know one of the guys who work at NS) and they sent it out ASAP. No questions asked.

Just a side note.. dry firing any centerfire firearm is no good with the exception of shotties. Rimfire is fine though.

There are quite a few problems with the csa vz 58 in 223. I am in line to send mine in for repairs under warranty as the repair facility is overwhelmed with warranty repairs. They are even looking for a second facility to repair them. I have a similar problem light and sometimes no primer strike

Mine has gone to Murray Charlton for warranty. Extractor. Looked forward to having one as I love my 858. Doesn't sound like CSA has hit the mark with these ones.

Caught me! Maybe drank a little too much while watching the Leafs game :)

do you deal with north sylva on the phone, or is through CGN better?

By phone: (416) 242-4867 Ask to speak to someone about warranty parts.

It's possible that the pin broke during dry firing (not that it should). I'm pretty sure mine broke dry firing with about 10 rounds on it.

The .223 firing pins how close are they to the 7.62-39 CZ firing pins?

Anyone know if they are close I think I have one here for the VZ 58/858

Pm me if you can get a pic of what you need

here, this is exactly what mine looks like, well the broken one on the left anyways...

from what I can tell they are the same pin, but that pic is of the 5.56 one, so if you have a 7.62 and it looks they same, they probably are. lemme know,
