Well I just got my first magnum rifle, Winchester model 70 in 338 win mag it has a threaded on muzzle break but it just spins off by hand, is that normal or should it have some locite or something like that

Many have a crush washer to time the brake. Regardless, if it times ok when tight and doesn't loosen on recoil it should be fine.

I ended up taking mine off and putting a thread protector on it.

Mine had no thread-tite or loc-tite, etc. it spins up against the crush washer a tightens until proper timing occurs.

Post a picture of your brake for best advice...

But it should not break loose by hand, some sort of tool should be required. Once it is loose it may spin off by hand.

Indexed is a better term...

That's why a picture was asked for... some brakes are indexed so the ports are specifically square to the level rifle.

A brake like this is normally indexed so when it is torqued tight on the barrel the top port is straight up... often installed with red Loctite and not removed.

Brakes like this do not matter where the ports index and are removable for ease of cleaning the barrel.

Well, I was just teasing, mostly... although I have noticed the "Demon" don't much care for brakes... whereas, I do... but it don't bother me... to each their own I say... I socialize and hunt with a number of Fudd's, including my own son (I don't know where he gets it from)... I take as much ribbing as I give.

my break looks just the second one in the pics

When installing the brake you should hold the butt stock of the unloaded rifle between your feet and with a steel punch or rod that fits in one of the brake ports nicely, tighten the brake enough that you will require the same procedure to remove it.

break is something broken...
