Is it true that 1999,2000,2001 there was no barrel stamp for the Remington 1100. Thinking of buying a 1100 3in off a guy and he was saying that it doesn't have a barrel stamp.
Assuming it's the original barrel could this be the case?

Most shipped with a 30" full choke. What's this barrel he's trying to sell you?

Also, it doesn't REALLY matter if there is a stamp on the barrel. Contact Remington if you're concerned, but I wouldn't care. You can always measure the chamber to confirm length. You shouldn't need a stamp to tell you 'don't use a 20ga shell!' :)

Any 3" receiver will say 'magnum' engraved on it, and I believe the last digit of the serial will be an 'M'.

Age - don't worry about it. The older the better. :) I think mine is a 1989 and it runs flawlessly.

HOWEVER - be aware that the 3" barrels (usually stamped 3' only!) will have trouble cycling light target loads (only one gas port). Mine used to work fine with heavy hunting loads (2 3/4 and 3") but would crap out on light loads. My solution was to buy a new barrel with two gas ports, and now it cycles everything fine. Was able to get remchokes at the same time... full was too tight, and wasn't rated for steel.

Might not be an issue for you, but make sure you check the gas port! If needed, it can be slightly enlarged to cycle lower power loads.

How much?

Have a 1100 made in the 70s was a gift I have put 12000 trap loads through it my self . Have not even changed the o ring yet
Gets cleaned every 500 rounds

Don't agree. As a 99/2001 model could it not more than likely have the special light contour barrel which is not a direct replacement with the earlier models and could also even have 1187 internals meaning the 1187 gas system?? Plus those 3" receivers had no magnum stamped. The G3 version
My question is does it have rem chokes or pro bore that will help nail it down. 1100's are not all the same as many think

Where did the 99-2001 come from??? That gun is a 1982 or earlier.
Won't fire any target loads and plain barrel meaning non vent rib I would say he means.
Would not be my 1st choice if I was after a 3" semi especially at 475 and yes I have a ton of these old 1100's and love them. BUT
